Ronan, take off them gooner glasses a minute and realise this is an EXCELLENT signing. We didn't want to lose Crouch, he is a top 4 player, the fact is though that we play better with Gerrard off Torres and so Crouch was second choice. He was a quality player for us, has an excellent touch, is skillful, although not the best finisher with his head wins many flick ons and holds the ball up brilliantly and on top of all this he has proven that he and Defoe can play together. Smart signing that improves Spurs attack no end. Their problem is in defence and on the left wing. Sort that out and they really could have a go at getting in to the top 4 but more likely would be a good shout for 5th. At the moment my pick for 5th would actually be Everton.
Classing it an excellent signing is a bit over-the-top, but I guess it does give them the much needed height. What about Keane, Bent, and Defoe? Who's we? Spurs? Liverpool? Pompey? He's played for a lot of clubs, man.
A tall striker is nice, but for a rumored 9 million pounds, wouldn't getting a strong and healthy defender be a better investment? Pavlyuchenko came on a bit at the end of the season and while he isn't 6'7", a 6'2" forward is nothing to sneeze at (its the same height as Berbatov). I think the people speaking out against the signing aren't offering a critique on Crouch as a player, just a critique on this piece of business.
Even as a piece of business it was good. Pav won't be around for long and if a decent offer comes in for Bent I could see him going as well. In Crouch and Defoe, Harry has a partnership and the importance of that can't be over looked. Now they need to make it the right signing by moving on Pav (who is a class player but just didn't fit) and using the money to buy DEFENCE. What Spurs have been crying out for for years is a strong tall elegant cb with leadership skills. You have to spend big for that kind of player but believe me if they get him then they are a real threat.
I guess this means they won't get Huntelaar? Crouch can't run, can't handle the ball, and is on the back end of his career. The kind of player I'm glad to see the Spurs overpay for.
