BC started retooling with the JO trade and probably going to end the process with the addition of the 15th man on the roster. so lets take a look at the roster changes since the JO trade. fyi, i didnt include marion cause he was kinda, sorta flipped for hedo and as a result has no effect on the 09/10 roster with the exception of the cap room created Addition Hedo Banks Evans Derozan Jack Rasho Wright George Subtraction JO Moon Kapono AP Joey G Pops Hump Jawai if these two sets of players were traded for each other- from a raptor perspective, would u do it? explain your rationale. i want u to consider all the realm of possibilities. for instance, we could have retained JO and become serious players in the 2010 Free Agency Sweepstakes.
I would give up what we had to get what we have now if thats what you mean by the trade. Retaining JO to for a shot at the 2010 free agency is too risky. Another losing season and we most likely would have seen Bosh leave as a free agent.
yeah thats what i mean by it. although, implicit in the question is whether we should keep our core (Bosh, Bargnani, Caledron) together? thats what im unsure about because im not sold on any of the three.
I am not sold on our core either, to be honest I don't think Bosh is a franchise kinda guy. But to lose him in free agency is too big of a hit, we have to stick with him for a few more years and see what this group can do. Then, if it seems like its not working out, blow it up and rebuild.
i would submit to u that if u believed bosh was going to leave, u would trade him before the trade deadline to hedge your bets. and u wouldnt constrain yourself with long term contracts ( i.e. caledron, hedo, jack) because in order to rebuild u would ideally want cap room.
I would definitely switch those players. There's nothing wrong with the 2010 approach. But the 2010 approach featuring Jermaine O'Neal is just far too risky. His presence almost guarantees that your team will be mediocre-terrible until that time, which starts putting doubts in your superstar's head. We faced this problem by the middle of the '09 season and Miami is facing it now. You can't keep selling the promise of help a couple years down the road. NBA superstars are too short-sighted and competitive to buy into that. The rest of those players are an easy switch. You get rid of four stupid NBA players (Jamario, Kapono, Graham, Humphries) and only really give up one player that could earn significant minutes in our current rotation (Anthony Parker).
yeah but has i write above- implicit in the question is the bigger question of whether we should keep our core together? i personally think we need to shed our core and startover but the hedo, caledron and jack long term contracts curtail any movement under the cap. its not as simple as might think. if we had hung onto JO- we could have still drafted Derozan, Traded for Evans; resigned AP using his bird rights, Signed Jack to his contract and retained our cap room in 2010. im personally leaning towards approving of BC's summer makeover but im still not sold because it puts us in the mercy of Bosh's choice in 2010. Potential Lineup C: JO, Bargnani PF: Bosh, Evans SF: Derozan SG: AP, Douby PG: Caledron, Jack
Well three moves I have strongly disagreed with--JO, Bargs, and Hedo. So I wish we could reset it. I know we could've landed a star talent with JO's contract if we still had it. Teams are going to be killing each other for expiring contracts at the deadline this season. We are and will continue to be a middling team.
i cosign. Jo's expiring contract would have given us a lot of options on 2010. essentially we traded JO, Moon, first draft choice (protected) for Hedo and Marcus Banks
