We gave them some cash at the side. That must've been their motivation:

You guys will probably like Belinelli. Hes a smart player, I can see him being a great glue guy in Toronto.

And BTW I think he's better than Wright and DeRozan. They might want Beli off the bench because hes a little more versatile but Beli is loads smarter, more competent creating for himself and others, probably just as good on defense or better.

Youtube him and you can see the type of crazy shit Beli is capable of. He gets himself in trouble by taking so many overly-difficult shots but hes also pretty good at making them (which is why his highlights are so exciting). I think you guys will like him but, like in Golden State, hes the kind of player who you can't just plop into any system and expect him to succeed.

What kind of system does he need?

I dunno really lol. To phrase it better I think he can fit anywhere but he needs to be integrated and get playing time. Like I said best case scenario hes a good glue guy who can do a little bit of everything for your team and isn't really worried about his stats. He has impact beyond the stats IMO. When hes in the game the ball moves better, he makes passes and plays that excite the crowd but hes not selfish or a ball hog, hes a good shooter, etc. I think he basically just needs a chance to get minutes and gel with his teammates because his best contributions will be intangibles but hes not like a Chris Paul or someone who you can put anywhere and he instantly makes everyone better.

I think Nellie's system was a good fit for his style of play but thats not to say he can't work in a half court system. He'd be good in a slower system spreading the court with his shooting, making plays on the pick and roll, cutting to the hoop, moving without the ball, etc. plus he plays solid defense.

belinelli is probably a lot better than wright but wright serves a function- defensive pest who doesnt care about jacking up ill advised shots. and triano has a mandate to play derozan often. therefore, i think knowing toronto's situation- he might be hard pressed for playing playing time.

The best thing about this trade is raps went really young now, this is awesome, it got me all excited about watching the raps again. Does anyone know if this is the most depth we have ever had since 2000?

now if the raps fail, it falls solely on them. colangelo has made great deals all round, possibly with the exception of the bargnani extension (which, if continues what he started last year, may not be too bad)

Belinelli isn't great (PER = 11.8 last season - in Nellie's fast paced system that often leads to inflated PERs), but he's way better than George. And he plays a position where you need help. So, that's a plus.

The problem with Belinelli, like most other Raptors players, is he's a horrible defender. Sure seems like Colangelo is trying to corner the market on poor defending Europeans (Bargnani, Calderon, Hedo, Belinelli). At least Raptors games should be fun to watch with a lot of scoring at both ends.

Re: Rumour: Devean George for Marco Bellinelli?

Delfino, due to his injury, wasn't really an option to begin with.

Actually, if you guys still have a roster spot available, this might help make Delfino more of an option. Now you have a guy in Belinelli who can fill in until Delfino is ready to play. Belinelli gives you immediate help and can hold down the 2 spot while Delfino is on the mend.

This is a good trade. We didn't want/need George, and Belly could turn into a good player for us. At least the chemistry he'll have with Bargnani will be immediate.

awesome trade, i'm pretty damn disappointed the wolves couldn't grab him. Belli for George is a steal, even if he never plays, it isn't a bad deal at all.

Warriors fans seem to think he's actually a pretty competent defender. Guess we'll just have to see for ourselves.

Colangelo was bound to make at least one or two good moves this summer. Hopefully DeRozan is the other.

His DRTg of 116 is flat out awful, but that could be due, in part, to the system he was playing in. Anyone who even tries to play defense in a Don Nelson system probably stands out as a "pretty good defender".

But, you basically got him for free. So, it's a good pick-up.

well there is a glut at the position and derozan could grow disenchanted by the lack of minutes thrown his way (e..g tmac)
