UFC in talks with Paul Daley [updated]

British fighter Paul Daley (21-8-2 MMA, 0-0 UFC) has reportedly signed a four-fight deal with the UFC and will join the organization's roster of welterweight fighters.

Daley had been slated to fight Jay Hieron at the Aug. 1 "Affliction: Trilogy" event before the event's cancellation last week.

Following the subsequent demise of Affliction's MMA-promotional arm altogether, he inked a deal with the UFC, according to Fighters Only online.

Daley, a six-year veteran who's fought for organizations ranging from Cage Rage to EliteXC to Strikeforce, has won three of his past four fights and nine of his past 11. Of his 21 professional victories, 16 have come via knockout.

Daley most recently competed at an April World Free Fight Challenge event in Slovenia, where he defeated Junior Barata via TKO.

No octagon debut date has been set for the fighter.

We'll probably see him debut at UFC 105 in Manchester. No doubt this move was made to further increase their foothold in the UK.

Semtex is a good striker but his take down defense is limited and his ground game (from the bottom) is no good.

Whilst Paul Daley is one of the most popular UK fighters in the welterweight division he has had a tough ride on the road of a professional fighter. A champion on a number of local promotions such as FX3, Paul then took the Cage Rage belt right at the time that EliteXC got involved in the London promotion.
However, the show quickly folded and Paul was left without a home to showcase his skills. He then stepped out of his comfort zone and took his brand of sprawl and brawl onto the international stage, appearing in Canada and then in Strikeforce.
He took on some tough opponents, including arguably one of the best 170lbs fighters not signed to the UFC and though he came out on the losing end to Jake Shields, Daley showed that his stand-up ability was not to be taken lightly.
His appearances earned him a shot on Affliction: Trilogy but, as rare as it is, lightning struck twice for the Rough House trained fighter. Once more, Daley was left out in the cold and his shot at the big time was swept out from under his feet.
According to some reports, Daley had then signed with the UFC but MMA Unltd can exclusively reveal that this is not the case. Yet.
Getting the call from Wad Alameddine, Paul Daley’s manager, we can confirm that the signing is yet to happen.
“We have been in talks with the UFC, DREAM, Bellator and Strikeforce; basically all the big organisations,” Wad stated. “It has been a nightmare with Affliction folding.”
Whilst Paul has had some tough breaks in terms of his career, Wad is confident that those conversations will however bear fruit.
“We’ve had some interesting proposals and though nothing is signed, the UFC, Dream and Bellator have all shown interest. We have offers from two organisations and another open offer but we haven’t signed anything yet.”
Obviously, Paul Daley has all the hype and all the interest from fans, media and promotions but the break is still to be signed on the dotted line.

So now he has signed.

For some reason he will debut at UFC 103 instead of 105 in Manchester.

I liked what I saw in Daley when he fought Jake Shields. He lost but he showed some good things. I think a fight between him and Dan Hardy would be fun. Good signing by the UFC.
