<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE </div><div class='quotemain'>Mavs relieved as NBA expands playoff rosters12:09 PM CDT on Tuesday, April 11, 2006By EDDIE SEFKO / The Dallas Morning News A possible roster issue for the Mavericks has been resolved by the NBA, which on Tuesday announced that playoff rosters were being increased from 12 to 13 players. The move means that the Mavericks won't have to leave one healthy player off their playoff roster. With Keith Van Horn and Pavel Podkolzin injured, the Mavericks expect to have 13 healthy bodies. Under the old, 12-man format, somebody would have had to be left off the roster. With the new setup, one player will have to be deactivated before each playoff game. Only 12 players will be allowed to suit up. The only concern for the Mavericks would be if Van Horn becomes healthy enough to merit consideration as the 13th player. He is recovering from hand surgery and it's conceivable he could be ready to play if the Mavericks reached the Western Conference finals or NBA Finals. The Mavericks have until 2 p.m. April 20 to finalize their playoff roster.</div>This gives us a chance to put Van Horn on the playoff roster, so when he's able to return can without having to stash him on the ir and be without him for the entire playoffs. Unlike Mavsfan, I think Van Horn provides insurance at the backup position along with Powell and gives us better depth at every position. Also, his range will help in certain situations.Waits for Mavsfan to plead his case for Rawle over Van Horn.

Good. To be honest I would rather realy on Van Horn, than Powell/Rawle as a Dirk backup. Mainly because of of experience in the league. I had no doubt in my mind that Van Horn would make it back. Didnt know that hand surgery took that shot of time to recover from, but like the article said...WCF of Finals

What has Van Horn proved in games? Even his own teammates say he has no heart. I do not want this guy playing in the playoffs. It is already proven the mavs played much better this year without Van Horn. Even worse is he will be very rusty. Powell hit a big clutch shot against San Antonio in the 4th quarter. Powell seems to be clutch and doesn't force the issue like Van Horn. If he can do that than he deserves to take all the minutes as backup 4 and maybe some at backup 3.

I would like to see what Mavs said that. Also, this isn't about Powell/Van Horn, it's about having a 13th player now being eligible for the playoff roster. I'm pretty sure Van Horn getting some time in the playoffs will be 5-10 minutes, so I don't know what your expecting but I doubt Van Horn kills us during that time. Also, what the <Censored> has Powell proven in the playoffs? Van Horn has Finals experience at least. Hatred getting in the way of good posting?

it's not like the 13th man would play very much, but good news nonetheless. just one more player to give the starters rest in a blowout i guess..

Even 5-10 minutes Van Horn could hurt us if he is taking away Powell's minutes.

Actually I think the PHX series would have been alot closer than it was if KVH hadn't gotten hurt last year, he actually makes the matchup against PHX more favorable.I alsot think KVH not only has a good outside shot, he also has pretty good inside game as well, and when Dirk and Terry can't drive, he can post up and make those little baby hook shots. This is also not about KVH vs Powell on the 13 man roster, I think it's more KVH vs Rawle. In that case I'd take KVH. He has experience, and we already have tons of swing players and guards. Powell will be on the roster as a backup 4, since we don't have as many bigs as we do swing players and guards.

His outside is not reliable. When he's on he can hit those shots but more than not he is missing those shots because they are usually flat. I hardly ever see him post up so don't think that is much of his game. His turnovers will burn Dallas against a running team like the suns. It is painful watching him drive and losing the ball.

Yeah, but Dirk is prone to losing the Ball when he drives to the hoop too, so is Stackhouse. So that's not as big a deal as your making out.

Van Horn has no midrange game. It is either him on his 3 point shot or his wreckless attack to the basket and dribbling is not his strength. Dirk can play with his back to the basket and is good at pump faking. He is nowhere near as turnover prone as Van Horn though. Stackhouse is just as bad as I agree and you don't see me defending Stackhouse a lot.

And I don't care if I upset you, you are the one telling me it's ok for Powell to be the backup to Dirk because he doesn't play that many minutes. You can say the same for Van Horn, but to you we will lose because of Van Horn playing any minute. And stop bringing <Censored> out of your <Censored> with I got the feeling Stackhouse feels the same way. You don't know jack and that's why I called you out to show me some quotes. And did you, no. And oh wow, Kenyon Martin dissed Van Horn, this is a guy whose called people around the league names ie. Fugazy and started a stupid fight in the playoffs with Tim Thomas. I'm supposed to care what he says?Van Horn has not hurt the chemistry this year at all, and for a guy getting 5-10 minutes, I don't see how that disrupts the team. If someone was out and played big minutes returned, then it would. But when a low minute guy returns, it's not much of a transistion to bring them back in. And your ignorance is shown in the next sentence as you made this a Powell vs. Van Horn thread. Quit overrating Powell.

Powell doesn't do a lot but at least he plays defense and rebounds and hits the open shot. Van Horn doesn't do that. Van Horn isn't a high percentage shooter either so what does he do that helps Dallas?

Also, are you saying Van Horn can't rebound or hit the open shot? Powell isn't a high percentage shooter either. So I don't know what you are saying anymore.Bottom line, on all Mavs boards I go on(dallas-mavs, db.com, lmf), this is the only board that I constantly hear about Powell/Rawle. These are guys to other Mavs fans, feel are 3rd/4th stringers right now, and not guys ready to play high minutes yet.

Well to Dallas they got plenty of scorers and Van Horn doesn't get enough shots to feel comfortable out there. Josh Powell does other things and you keep saying Van Horn rebounds and he doesn't. For a power forward his rebounding stats suck. Powell doesn't do anything spectacular but he doesn't do anything that hurts the team like not playing defense and not blocking out.

I'm done with this bickering, it's going no where.

Alrite, guys, Powell is a nice player, and I like him, but Van Horn is in no way a bad player. I think he's underrated on a couple of SMALL things on defense, and his ability to drive is also underrated. I've seen him get some cool drives a lot, and doesn't ANYBODY remember Van Horn's five consecutive treys in like 3 minutes? You can't say it's a liabilty...

Omg you guys are like the only Van Horn supporters out there. He does nothing for the team. That 5 3 point game was the only good game he has had all year. What about the month where he was rushing shots before that game?

It's not supporting him, were just not bagging him as nothing for this team like you are. And please, for what Van Horn does with his role as a 8th/9th man, people accept him unlike you.And as a fan of your team, you should support everyone, so <Censored> off.
