That's an odd statement considering the over-whelming support he's got over this issue.

You clearly don't have access to my PMs/posts.

I notice you post non-stop about this issue, so you probably are just overly sensitive to anyone who doesn't think it's a 100% total outrage like you do.

I've posted twice about it. If that is "non-stop", then I agree about being overly sensitive.

Ever. You are making the claim, right? Twice. Perhaps both to you. Don't care, don't know.

Sorry, I thought you posted on this on a semi-regular basis. I must have got you mistaken for someone else. My bad.

That's how I feel! I swear I've been reading posts throughout July from PapaG talking about the outrage that is the delay in the Brandon Roy extensions, but then I'm told that he's only posted on this issue twice.

I've even found multiple threads in a matter of minutes with posts from PapaG seeming to express his concerned, but again, I was told otherwise.

    I'm totally confused!

Oh, I thought you were talking about everybody on the board being in Roy's camp on this one. That's not the case. Miscommunication, I guess. Definitely worth ghosting me on threads, I suppose.

You're tough to keep up with, but I'm trying! Running out of gas though!

I do not think everyone is is Roy's camp.

I would say 20% are blindly supporting Roy (no ifs, ands, or buts)
    10% are blindly supporting management
70% realize that either a deal will get done this summer or they'll match any contract offer next summer, so it's not worth getting worked up about.

So let's talk about an elephant in the room. Does anybody honestly believe that if Roy makes it to free agency, that another team will not offer him a max deal?

This isn't just about making the right economic deal for the Blazers. This is about protecting the Blazers from making a mistake. Talent wins in this league. Look around the league. Do you ever hear of a team being talked about making it to the finals because of their great work with the salary cap? By keeping under budget? Fuck no you don't. Because it doesn't happen.

The facts are the team's with talent win. Not the team with the best salary cap situation win.

If you were an NBA team would you offer a young, quality individual, top 10 player a max deal? Of course you would.

Part of that is because Kobe has already gotten "it" a couple of times, and by "it" I mean big paydays. Roy is still waiting on his first.

I agree, but that should only be a very small factor.

Getting his extension done in July vs August/September doesn't get him a dime any sooner. I would think Roy has supreme confidence that he's going to get a major payday on his next contract.

while I'm not saying I'm one of those who are freaking out about this not signed thing. I can see a reason why a player who wants to be here would want it done as soon as possible. Anything can happen between now and in those months. I remember before Z-Bo got his big contract management (although crappy management) waited till the last time period to do so. And Quick or Canzano said something along the lines of "It may sound bad, but they are waiting to sign in the case if an injury or something career threatening happens" If Roy got in a car accident and paralyzed (god forbid it happen to anyone) he isnt gonna get that contract obviously. So I dont think its about Roy worried he will not get a major pay day. Just my 2 cents though.

Again, I agree with this side.

However, if that is his major concern, then you would think he would take that 4 Year, $60M+ contract. If he simply wants a contract that will provide him more insurance than his current $15M contract did, then he's got it. If a guy can't survive on a $75M over his life-time, he's got major issues!

To me, this is about Roy wanted to show everyone that he is a MAX MAX player (which I don't disagree with). However, I can't blame Portland for trying to get a better deal.

When I was looking at my current house, it was worth it's asking price, and it was worth that much to me. However, I didn't offer the builder the asking price, I came in lower to see if I could get a better deal. When the builder didn't budge, he called my bluff, and I purchased it anyway. I don't think I was an idiot for trying to get a better deal.

I agree with those that say, "let it work itself out and it will."

On the side of Management, it seems that you have so much allotted money to work with to build a team, so they are saying that a four year contract or what ever, allows them to include other higher paid (i.e. better) players to add to the puzzle. If Roy and LMA were to take less now they might be able to add or keep more better players so the team is better and has a better chance at a championship and for a longer run.

If Roy and LMA want a championship they and their Agents need to keep that in mind.
It also makes for a possible better third contract for each player if they indeed do preform well enough for it. Of course on the players side, they are thinking they need to get it now. A bird in the hand so to speak.

I guess this is why it is called negotiations. And may be why it taking longer than some think it should.

Since cap is projected to go *down* next year by up to 5 mill... I don't think anyone could offer a contract next year for more than he would get this year. Max contracts are adjusted down with salaray cap correct? That may be why the Blazers are dragging their feet.
