I am shocked that no one has posted this, along with "KP is an idiot, we could have got Sessions for 3 mil a year, blah blah blah."

Because we can't give him that. The Blazers right now have 1.1 million in salary cap room. That number does go up to 3.8 when the season starts, and 7.8 if the team got smart and traded Travis for picks.

I'm not. If this was two weeks ago we'd have a dozen threads before the mods could get around to merging. But we've got Miller now. Sessions is basically a less proven version of Miller.

I don't have any info to back this up at all, but the way that Sessions produced last year but hasn't received one serious offer thus far makes me wonder if maybe he's a little bit of a head case. I vaguely remember a KP quote where he said they talked with Sessions but decided he wasn't a good fit for us. Leads me to believe he wouldn't fit into our culture.

They may be enamored with how their draft pick, Jennings has been playing. IMO Sessions was doing pretty damn good for a 2nd round draft pick. But he isn't really worth drooling over either.

I like him for 3 mil a year tho! Better than Bayless.

Given that OKC is the only team left with enough cap space to take Travis for picks alone, that doesn't give KP much room to "get smart" about Travis.

I thought there were a few teams with TPE's? Also, I am pretty sure Memphis is well under the cap still.

Sounds like the Bucks actually realize what he's worth. A team that has seen him day and and day out clearly don't think he's some up and coming PG.

Sessions has been severely overrated on this board for the entire off-season.

so now you have to convince those teams that Travis is worth either a really high lottery pick, or 2nd round garbage.

Memphis, OKC, and Sacramento all have the cap space to absorb Outlaw with no problem. The thing is, if we actually wanted to bring in Sessions, I would think it would make much mroe sense to get rid of Blake than it woudl Outlaw. Sessions isn't coming in to play backup SF/PF. It wouldn't really be worth signing him to a deal, and then having him fight for third string minutes with Bayless, while Miller and Blake play ahead of him. Shipping Blake to Memphis as a backup PG would work. Shipping him to OKC as a vet backup PG would work. Sending him to Denver for a TPE as backup PG could work. Miami for their TPE.
That being said, I'm fine with our team as is, and think if we wanted Sessions, we woudl have made a push for him already.

This is a darn shame. Sessions is potentially an awesome point guard going forward. I strongly preferred him to Miller, and if he could be had for cheap.... shucks.

I doubt it would work to have Sessions/Miller as the two point guards splitting time (they are both starters) - even if we could find someone to take Outlaw/Blake/Bayless so we'd have the room. But one has to wonder... would Milwaukee do a S&T with us to get these players? All three are cheap, and the first two are productive. Bayless has "potential".

We could do a sign and trade....and ship Bayless to the Bucks. Bucks are playing hardball with Sessions. They know there really isn't anyone out there with capspace to give Sessions the deal he wants.

I wonder how true this report is. The Bucks might want to leak that so that another team makes an offer for only $3.1 million, which they'd then gleefully match.

Or it could be a real leak. Or it could be made up.

There is no doubt that a backup PG is more important to this team than is backup 2G (since we have Roy and Rudy there). Bayless is third-string. So I love the S&T Bayless (and Blake?) for Sessions. Might Milwaukee want him?

Agreed. The guy is certainly solid, but not a franchise-changing PG by any means. He just isn't that good.

Well I guess that is an opinion. I see having a player in the 3rd string with upside and development potential as being better over the long run than having a guy who adds depth which will make no difference to the team. I guess what I am saying is, not playing = not playing. Whether you are Sessions or Bayless it does not matter. 3rd string guard isn't going to get a lot of time on the floor, so it matters little. All I care about is they play hard when they come in, and don't rock the boat. I am not sure Sessions wouldn't be a little upset about being a bench player. At least I know right now that Bayless has bought in.

Supposedly, Portland pulled out of a deal with Memphis for a pick when Millsap fell through. I don't think it would be too hard.

And we could split Outlaw's minutes between Cunningraph, Penderham, and "Peg-leg" Webster.

You don't like Outlaw...we get it. He is still the 3rd best forward on the team and an important part of the bench.

In that case, this becomes eminently doable, and a super idea. I for one would be thrilled to trade Bayless (who will be miserable this year in PDX), Blake (who is redundant if Sessions comes), and Outlaw (who needs to go anyway for a host of reasons) for Sessions and a pick. It would solve *so* many problems, including getting us our point guard for 2-8 years out, when Miller is gone.

There is no way Portland picks up a player of his caliber so cheaply in the future (this is strange year, because of the economy), and the chances of drafting a PG as good as he is are VERY slim. So if KP is really planning for the future, this is an awesome pickup. And Sessions would not be unhappy; Miller *is* aging, and a long contract would make it clear who our future PG is. He'd have the clear path to being the starting PG on a contender.
