Brandon's being named to the 2nd team All-NBA in his 3rd season is historically noteworthy. Very few guards in the history of the league have achieved this honor so quickly. It essentially means that you have established yourself as one of the top four guards in the league.

    Roy is in elite company.

    * Only seventeen guards in NBA history made the All-NBA team as quickly as Brandon.
    * Only two players -- Big O (averaged a triple double for his first six seasons) and Jordan -- made All-NBA in their rookie years. Big O made first team (one of best two guards in league) and MJ made second team (one of four best guards in league).
    * Three players -- Cousy, West and A Hardaway -- made first team All-NBA in their second season.
    * Four players -- Isiah, KJ, D Wade, and Earl the Pearl -- made second team All-NBA in their second season.
    * Three players -- AI, Frazier, and CP3 -- made first team All-NBA in their third year.
    * Five players -- Magic, T Hardaway, Moncrief, Pistol Pete, and B Roy -- made second team All-NBA in their third year.
    * Noteworthy is the list of great guards that didn't make it into the top four guards in the league in their third year, including (showing all-star game appearances): Kobe (11*, probably because he came in young), Clyde the Glide (10), Stockton (10), Kidd (9*), Payton (9), Ray Allen (9*), Mitch Richmond (6), Steve Nash (6*), and Reggie Miller (5),
    * Of course, at certain times there may be more great guards, making it harder to break into this list.
    * It's possible I missed a few players that should be on the list.

If the 2012 Maya prediction stuff goes down, at least it will feel good knowing the world will be destroyed with B-Roy under contract to the Blazers.

I can't say that I feel 100% good about this signing; I certainly don't feel bad but...

As I understand it, the Blazers were willing to give him a 5 year max contract, even considering this might hamstring us financially somewhere down the line, even considering the state of the world economy. But Brandon (the guy who said in his initial interview with the team that he was only interested in helping the team win) was not willing to commit to our team for 5 years; he wanted a player option for the 5th year, and he got it. So if he decides there is a better situation for him after four years, he will leave the Blazers.

That gives him one more year of commitment than LeBron James, Chris Paul, Dwyane Wade, and Deron Williams gave their respective teams on their extensions. Also, with the 5th year being >$20 million, I highly doubt Roy will be leaving to start a new deal.

Four years is a long time.. I don't think you have to worry that far into the future. Enjoy the ride!

Also, it's actually 5 years, since the extension doesn't kick in until after next season. Roy is the franchise at this point.

You guys are probably right, he will be at an age when he finishes the four years that it isn't likely he will find a team that wants to pay him 20 million plus. I just wondering why this was such a sticking point for both sides.

Brandon was in a position where he could ask for the moon... I don't blame him for doing so.

He is a good enough player--and valuable enough to the franchise more generally--that the team was willing to give it to him.

SHOULD they have? I guess that's a question we can all ponder and even second-guess, but I (in spite of my willingness to defend the Blazers' negotiations that might have occurred in the last month) trust that it's a good investment. Roy is a special player and we have one of the wealthiest owners in sports in the entire world. He can afford it and we should be able to keep the team's talent well stocked in spite of giving him everything he asked for.

LOL I mean seriously? The team prepared a statement for him thanking people?

Well, I'd read it as Roy prepared the statement (when they agreed verbally, or whenever), which was issued by the team once he signed.

No one was crying. I misread the statement. I read it as the Blazers prepared a statement for Roy where Roy thanked his family and such.

You need to relax, and realize that some of who complain don't do it about everything in every post. Maybe take a nice bath or something?
