u should undertake a self imposed suspension of 7 days from the site for making such egregious statements. vc is as clutch as it gets; if u want evidence refer to the heartwrenching ways in which he beat our arse or the three consecutive games he won with game winning shots as a raptor.

Every Nets fan in the world points to that shot as if it provides some form of vindication. Fuck that. The Raptors were absolute shit that year, still recovering from the "VC for peanuts" trade. And our only legitimate perimeter defender was ejected because of this:

Jose flippin' Calderon was the best defender we could put on VC. I prefer to remember VC's weak play against us in the '06 playoffs.

he did it this year against the raps as well. and hitting a 25 foot game winning three on a fastbreak is something that id say only a dozen or so guys in the nba can do.

dont let your disgust for vince colour his abilities to make it happen.

If Cleveland didn't have Shaq, it would have been the easy choice.

It is still my choice though.

But the Raps ain't beating any of the 3 in the playoffs.

Oh, he can make it happen. I'm not doubting that. He's shown it against better teams than us. But his "legendary" clutch performances against Toronto are so overhyped. There are summer league players that could nail a pullup 3 over Jose Calderon. And the Raps team he pulled that alley-oop on this past season was lacking their best (only) interior defender due to:

Fact is, when the post-VC Raps were their best defensively (which is basically mediocre), he came up lame.

i was the biggest critic of vince when he was here but i still retain a little bit of objectivity and i recognize a star when i see it. he's clearly on a decline but if he was on the raps- the ball would be in his hands in the clutch. and the nets have enjoyed much more success than the raps since he left.

Dude, deception has always been the furthest thing from a VC homer.

... He just happens to be wrong in this debate. :ghoti:

maybe im getting a little nostalgic here but when vince was here, i always thought we had a chance to beat anyone in the league on a given night but i dont have that same confidence these days. why? vince could put up 50

you are right when VC was a raptor, raptors cudev beat anyone. Cuz back then Vince was insane, hard to guard. He was like the LBJ of now IMO, but as soon as he left raptors for nets he went on a decline not scoring wise but being effective! Seriously did the nets go anywhere? yes made it to the second round of the playoffs but thats cuz they had RJ and J-kidd! thats it!

Plus how can u not b mad at vince for injuring both Ford and Calderon during the playoffs in which raps lost cuz their PGs were injured???

I remember having the same feelings about Carter that I now do about Bosh. He was electrifying and awesome to watch, but I felt like he just stopped rounding out his game and just settled with what he had. Of course, the level VC settled at is 10 times better than where Bosh did. But watching VC made me feel excited and a bit frustrated at the same time. In '00/'01, both Carter and Kobe represented huge offensive talents and were relatively on par, IMO. Kobe continued working at his game (defense, adding more offensive moves, improving conditioning), whereas Carter never really did.

you know both cousins did the exact same, T-Mac stopped improving his game and rehabing and VC stopped improving. Although I have to admit (as much as I dispise VC) his still better then Bosh!!!

As an outsider, I find it fascinating how this has evolved into a Vince thread. You guys really haven't gotten over him, have you?

Many Portland fans felt the same way about Sheed for years - although that seems to have finally faded away now that the team is good again. Winning cures all ills, past and present.

Last year Lakers felt the same way that w/o shaq they werent gonna win the championship but now they believe, man its the same thing when u loose a Star that brought excitment to a team, brought the team to new heights and now the team is still trying to figure out how to make the second round is hard to let go, its hard to let go of the glory days.
take a look at new york knicks they r prefect example!!!

u need to understand toronto basketball fans- they have been scorned so many times that they have developed a jilted lover complex. tmac, damon, antonio davis all were booed in their returns even in times of success. the only players who were cheered in their returns were matt bonner, jyd, alvin williams and mo pete.

I really think if Carter had anything that even was close to resembling a team, that he would be talked about up there with Kobe all the time.

Antonio Davis, Eric Montross, Araujo, Mamadou N Jaiye, etc none of them were top 15 centers.

Oakley was valuable for his presence, and had some defensive grit, but he shot like 39%.

    No interior shot blocking presence.

Alvin Williams shot 42% and the ones that went in were mainly wide open shots.

Michael Curry was a joke, Michael Bradley was too.

The Raptors had like 1 tradeable piece outside of Vince, and that was Mo-Pete. (and T-Mac before he left).

Even if the Raptors could have gotten not even a Center like Shaq, but a guy like Theo Ratliff, and then Antonio Davis could have played PF, and Oakley been a backup (like he should have been on any other team).

Our offense was so terrible outside of Vince. Absolutely horrible. and defensively, we had no shotblocking presence.
