Which draft class was better?Notable players from the 1984 draft:Hakeem OlajuwonMichael JordanCharles BarkleyJohn StocktonAlvin RobertsonOtis ThorpeKevin WillisMichael CageJerome KerseySam PerkinsNotable players from the 1996 draft:Allen IversonRay AllenMarcus CambyStephon MarburyShareef Abdur-RahimAntoine WalkerKerry Kittles Kobe Bryant Jermaine O'NealSteve Nash Peja Stojakovic Zydrunas Ilgauskas Derek FisherIts hard to argue with 96's talent and depth but 84 featured four of the greatest players in NBA history.
I'd say 84. The Class as a whole had more players with championships. Michael Jordan-6, Hakeem Olajuwon-2, and more players that reached the finals. Stockton, Barkley. While the 96 class has only two players with rings(bryant-3, fisher-3) and you can make an agrument that fisher was along for the ride on his rings because of kobe and shaq. Iverson and kerry kittles are the only other players to reach the finals and came up short. As far as talent, both classes are pretty even, as 84 has the better quality of talent and 96 has the quanity of good players.

How can you say that? With Jordan you have the best player of all-time, with Stockton you have maybe the best or second best PG of all-time, and with Hakeem you have one of the top 4 centers of all-time. And underrated Kevin Willis.

Nash, Allen, Iverson, Kobe vs. Hakeem, Jordan, Barkley, Stockton, no match</div>It's the depth though that matters. Z, Camby, Marbury, Shareef, Peja vs. Alvin, Cage, Thorpe, Willis, Kersey.Easily 96 there. But, I still think 84 is better. The best player ever, the top assist/steal getter, Charles Fricken Barkley and the Dream.84 has two quadruple double people- Alvin Robertson and Hakeem

And Cage for a few years was one the best rebounders in the NBA. Your knocking those guys because you know what Reef, Marbury have done.

They have some of the greatest players ever to play the game. The 96 draft has some big name players that play today, b ut dont match up as well in the big picture..The best players in the 84 draft can be compared side by side with the legends of this league and fit right in..Those four players alone make it very difficult to match up..
84You've got the 2nd best pg ever. The best player ever to playand the 2nd best Center ever.easy decision for me.Sure AI and Kobe and Nash are great but they dont stack up to those superstars.Edit: Not to mention Sir Charles Barkley. One of the greatest rebounders ever for his size. He was a rough player with a decent shot. He is a HOF guy.
Sure AI and Kobe and Nash are great but they dont stack up to those superstars.Do not mention Nash with Ai and kobe again.Blasphemy.
i'll take '84. Produced the best player ever, and alot of other HOFers. '96 was a little deeper, but '84 definitely had better players.
I would say the 84 draft class just beacuase of the 96's horrible picks in the draft. If you look up the draft alot of great players went later and bad players went before them. But, they were both great drafts talentwise.
True True^. But, I still think I have a point. I read the article in the SLAM magazine and wow it just blew me away who went where. I could get it out and write out the notables. I mean most of the betetr guys went 10-20.
Wait until all of the players retire from 96. We don't know the full talent of each player. Marcus Camby could end up better than Micheal Cage. Each player I mentioned is a great player that would be a third option or higher on most NBA teams. I know those players are great, but personally, I like 96's backups over 84's.
