Re: WEC 42: Torres vs. Bowles (Aug. 9th)

Yeah Bowles is huge for a bantam and quite the striker for his size.

I actually like Mir a lot as an announcer. He gets his words mixed up al ittle bit but I find what he has to say a lot more entertaining than Joe Rogan. Rogan basically just tells me what I'm watching "knees to the solar plexes!...elbows to the face!...hes got the hooks in!". Mir actually explains what's going on a little better.

Mir is a good analyst but he gets caught up a little in praising one fighter or the other, IMHO.

I rewound it and watched the main event again. Mir actually gets cracked up when Torres goes down, then says like two words through the rest of the broadcast. I think he might've been sad.

Holy shit, WEC is having a changing of the guard this year. Faber goes down after a long reign (It happened this year right?) and now Torres losing to Bowles. I gotta catch this event on the replay ASAP. I am a little surprised that Bowles won, but I kinda had a feeling it would happen tonight.

I hope we see a rematch soon, I think Torres was doing well in that fight, he just got caught. It's a quality win for Bowles but he wasn't dominating or anything serious.

Re: WEC 42: Torres vs. Bowles [Results]

Did you watch it? Torres got rocked in the first exchange and knocked to the ground. Bowles was also on top of him on the ground at one point for a decent stretch IIRC. Torres had a few flurries but both times Bowles seemed to counter pretty well and didn't seem to be effected. The second big flurry from Torres being the one where Bowles countered with a hook, dropped MAT and ended the fight.

It was a pretty damn entertaining fight while it lasted but I'd say Bowles had a clear edge from the get go. Right after the fight I was already thinking rematch though.

Brian Bowles busted his hand hitting Miguel Torres. He'll be out until 2010.

Re: WEC 42: Torres vs. Bowles [Results]

I did watch it, just once though. Maybe I got a bad case of the "Mir's" I'll try to watch it again once more to see if my mind doesn't change. I still think that if Torres makes/made a couple of small adjustments he'd crush Bowles. For example, I think the Bowles really took advantage of Torres fireball approach, If Torres would of taken his time he could of used his reach to pick apart Bowles.

Re: WEC 42: Torres vs. Bowles [Results]

Agree with you there. I only watched once but I still think Bowles had a distinct edge. That being said you're 100% right, Torres seemed to play perfectly into Bowles' strategy and strengths. Should they fight again (very likely I presume) Torres will have a very different approach and could have a great shot at winning.

I've always wondered how Steroids give a competitive edge in MMA. It's supposed to help you get really jacked, but if you have to stick to a certain weight, you're only gonna be so big right?

Well runners use steroids too, right?

Most steroids just speed up muscle recovery time. Enables you to work out more frequently and more strenuously. Steroids don't build muscle mass.
