Kobe was 19 playing in his first all star game against the MVP. He actually played pretty good D on MJ in most of those plays. And I believe Kobe had something like 19 points in that game. I also think it shows courage for a young guy to come in and want to guard the best player in NBA history.BTWhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=he0akllbsoUHe scored 55 that night.

Key word Kobe owns the Wizards. MJ was what like 40? MJ owned Kobe in the all-star game and it's just typical for a Laker fan to come in and defend him. 19 year old Kobe got schooled by an ancient MJ.

Kobe averaged barely half of that with 15 ppg. And did you see what you just typed, MJ owned Kobe in the all-star game. You do realize that All Star games don't mean <Censored>, right?

MJ wasn't guarding Kobe during that Wiz game. Kobe WAS guarding MJ during that all star game, and you can just see he was playing D the best he could, yet MJ schooled him. Nothing wrong with it, so accept it.

He was too old then. Just like Kobe couldn't guard MJ in 98, he was too young.

Kobe wa sin peak physical condition and was starting to blossom into a very good player. MJ on the Wizards wasn't ahtletic anymore and physically couldn't guard Kobe. Kobe in '98 was faster and more athletic than MJ, but got taken to school.

He was barely 200 pounds, sure he could jump high and everything but he wasn't yet a good defender, he'd try to take the ball in one on five, and he would get muscled around by every other guard in the league.

Yes he was only 200 pounds, but he was faster and more athletic than Jordan. Mentally, he was just as good a defender as he is now. He was up on Jordan on each shot, but it just proves Jordan was that unguardable. Putting the Wizard Jordan on Kobe in 2002 would have been like me playing my grandpa one on one.

He was an okay defender, but Jordan was the MVP that year.

He played very, very good D on MJ, and tried his best. Phil didn't make Kobe a better defender, he incorperated him into triangle and made him mesh with Shaq perfectly, but his defense has always been very good. Bottom line is MJ schooled Kobe, and Kobe never will get the chance to do the same to MJ.
