<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Nitro1118 @ Apr 17 2006, 07:47 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>Yes Jordan was MVP that year, but Kobe was an all star and outmatched Jordan athletically. He played very, very good D on MJ, and tried his best. Phil didn't make Kobe a better defender, he incorperated him into triangle and made him mesh with Shaq perfectly, but his defense has always been very good. Bottom line is MJ schooled Kobe, and Kobe never will get the chance to do the same to MJ.</div>I think scoring 55 in their last meeting ever was good enough. If MJ could've guarded Kobe, he would've, but he knew he couldn't so he didn't want to get burned and let someone else do it.

Of course he couldn't he was 40 fu*kin years old. That MJ couldn't even hold 98 MJ's jock. But, Kobe was more athletic and had that advantage on MJ in '98, yet was murdered. And Kobe didn't drop 55 on MJ, he dropped it on Stack.

Murdered? That clip showed what, 4 plays? Kobe had 18 and 6 that game in 22 minutes, he was the youngest all star in NBA history. He also played very well against Michael when he played in Chicago.

You're right, the young Kobe couldn't guard that MJ, but that MJ couldn't guard young Kobe either.

And find stats showing Kobe did well on Chicago MJ. MJ was just too good for Kobe, and Kobe still wouldn't be able to guard MJ one on one, as MJ had the most unstoppable fadeaway for a swingman in NBA history, and was athletic and quick enough to get around Kobe and get fouled.

MJ probably didn't guard Kobe as Kobe wasn't a starter yet, and not the best guard on the team.

Show them then. You saw clips, meaning that you likely didn't see the whole game. If he did drop that much on MJ....cool. In playoffs or in a game that mattered where the Bulls defense wasn't focusing on Shaq only, would it have happenned? No.

Thing is Kobe was really trying to guard Kobe. I give him all the credit in the world, that takes some balls to do what he did....doesn't change the fact that MJ sh*t on him.

MJ is the GOAT, it isn't shameful to get owned by him.

It's a shame tho that we never got to see these two play eachother in their prime. I think as far as just one on one ability, these two are equal.

new to the site so just having a look around and came across this. As much as I dislike the Lakers I couldn't believe how people were using this as an example to put Kobe down. The guy was 19! Was still growing, still learning the game and playing against the greatest player of all time in his first all star game. A game that he put up some pretty good numbers as well.MJ in his prime against the Kobe of today, now THAT would be a sick contest.
