Sci-fi is often used as a vehicle to address political and social issues. That's what made the original Star Trek TV series so unique and special.
The story I heard was that the Soviets heard about this show and commented that there weren't any Soviets in the plot. Roddenberry, exasperated, reportedly said, "Jesus, how about we let them drive the damn thing!" And thus, Chekov was born.
If you don't like movies with political or even religious overtones, then you are missing out on a lot of very good cinema Agreed, completely different genres and production values. District 9 is a movie that spawns discussion and questions about the world we live in while cloverfield was a mildly entertaining movie
My bad. I meant to say that the camera style is similar to Cloverfield- the hand-held style that makes some people want to hurl.
going 2moro night, one of the cinemas with the kickback seating, mega comfort, and they serve you wine and the girl im going with is paying - makings of a good night....
Great, great movie. The acting, originality, and story are so much better than Cloverfield. Very intense. I didn't see it as political at all, rather it showed how fucked up we are as people. It's amazing they made it for only 30million, the special effects were better than Transformers/Wolverine/etc. One of the best movies I've seen this year, right up there with The Hurt Locker.
It was ok...kind of contrived IMO...but the concept was interesting if a little preachy... Really, humanity is that bad? That simplistic in our motives? I don't think so... I thought the main actor did a good job and special effects\actio was pretty good...story...eh...so so... Here is hoping for a better District 10.... I thought Star Trek was one of the better movies I saw this year...and I expected it to be mediocre and I thought it was pretty good....Haven't seen a lot of the movies that have come out this year though
Do you live in a bubble with no knowledge of the past or of current events? I'm not saying there aren't a lot of good people, but yes, humanity is that bad. The thirst for advanced weapons and MONEY would cause people to act like that. And I can say that definitively because we have time and time again in the past regarding far inferior technology than that portrayed in the movie.
Great movie. Blaze01: Hypothetically, if there was a half alien/half man thing out there, do you honestly think it wouldn't be taken for testing resulting from cloak & dagger operations?
We are terrible as people, basically savages, we've gotten better throughout ages but we kill other people like there is no tomorrow. (just check out the news daily)
testing..yeah probably...but killing him to harvest his organic matter...that is a stretch.... Do you sit in a dark room watching the X-files everyday and scanning the web for any\all conspiracies? Cause some...not all...yeah some people are that bad...MOST people are not... What a bunch of pessimists here...you must be democrats... and I would like to add that the idea that aliens would come here and then a corporation would be in charge of them to be preposterous.. yeah I could see the countries of the world letting a corporation handle the whole thing..uh huh...sure...
