Because if people said "Your Pierre-like policies..." everyone would look around and say, "Who the hell is that?" Then you'd have to respond, "Remember that Canadian PM with the freaky wife?" And that takes some of the effect off of it. People who oppose policies will generally use the most extreme and confrontational example to make their point.
