I love seeing Phil get his credit, but everytime we lose a game I still somehow question for something. lol
I agree that he's the goat, but it's not undisputed. I bet I can find a ton of people who would disagree. Just sayin...
Yeah Phil is a disputed #1, due to all the great players he's had. Thought he still should have given Sasha's minutes to Shannon in the Finals, could have given Bryant more of a rest if that were the case. But yeah overall he was pretty good this season.
In order to be a great coach, you have to have great players. That's my thought. That's what separates the good ones from the great ones is the fact that the great ones have the great players. Look at the recent champs we've had, and they all have one thing in common: great players. In order to be considered a great coach, you've got to have a good team which means you've got to have the talent. That's why I don't buy the BS argument that he's had talent wherever he went. If you're going to win in this league and be considered a great coach, you've got to have the talent, it's that simple. Phil has had the great players and he's got the titles to show it. The only person you could argue against Phil with is Red, and last I knew, he only had 9 rings.
Hey that's fine if you want to say he's #1 but it isn't a close and shut case. He doesn't have just great players, Charles Barkley is a great player, Kobe/Jordan/Shaq are on a different level. He might well be #1 but I can see cases being made for others. I do see Phil's accomplishments as more impressive than Red's though, who just as a coach doesn't match up.
Every time PJax has won a title he's gone on to 3-peat. He has a chance to keep the trend going with this Laker squad.
