Jozy Altidore scored the second goal in Hull's 3-1 Carling Cup win over Southend. A free kick was rolled over to Jozy, who then sent in a rocket from 30 yards out to make it 2-0, according to the ESPN Soccernet report. Phil Brown was quite complimentary in his assessment of Altidore, saying, "The biggest bonus of the night wasn't just the fact some young lads have made their debuts and done well, it was getting 90 minutes out of Jozy Altidore. He hit the winning goal and he's probably still suffering from jetlag having arrived on Friday. He played a full competitive game - and it was competitive, Southend were no slouches." With a goal in his first start and an assist in his first apperance, things seem to be going very well for Altidore. Jozy and Hull play again on the 29th against Marcus Hahnemann and Wolves.
Fantastic for Altidore's confidence. Southend are no team to fuck up around as they beat United a couple of seasons ago.
