A friend of mine emailed me the lyrics to a Marty Robbins song (old country singer from the 50's and 60's...think "El Paso")..

It was a song written being pro Vietnam and anti-Communistic.

I thought it was funny how some of the same fears is still being drummed up today. Although I found it funny how it could be used to describe both sides of the debate. Liberal and Conservative. (well, cept for the God parts)

I wish I could find it on youtube somewhere.

Probably went the way of Song of the South: Banned for offensive content.

I did some reading up on it, and apparently he (Marty Robbins) chose to not release it, after having second thoughts about it.

I've heard it and I actually think it's a pretty catchy song.

Completely random but I've been obsessing over this song lately. I heard it on a TV show a few weeks ago and have played it over and over since. I think it's amazing, what a voice, she makes you feel the words.

that reminds me of the song used for a commercial, a few years ago.

I don't care if it's about California, the song is really nice. A good 60's feel to it, without being cheesy.

That's the thing about the music from before about 1980... you really had to be able to sing, they couldn't really fix anything in the studio. I've been wandering around You Tube and finding old songs that I forgot about... but they're still good.

Paul Carrack was the lead vocalist for Ace. He later joined Squeeze where he sang lead vocals on "Tempted". Finally, he joined Mike & The Mechanics where he sang on some real 80s tripe.

I didn't know that! I went back and listened to "Tempted" and "Living Years". He might not be a great musician or songwriter but the voice is great. It also made me realize why 80s music sounds kind of cheezy to me. The guitar was replaced by the keyboard in the 80s (except for the hair bands). It sounds light weight compaired to bands like The Doobie Brothers, The Eagles, Foreigner, etc.

Although, back in the day, I was rockin' my parachute pants, gigantic shoulder padded jacket and spiral perm to this gem:

Somewhere, years and years ago, I saw a parody of this song. It was done from the point of view of a militant vegetarian who was furious with his significant other for sneaking some hamburger into his food. It went something like "You fed me ground round baby, ground round, from a dead cow baby, ground round ground round..."
