What are some of your biggest memories in sports? Just off thetop of the head. No googling stuff. Mine, just off the top of my head right now... (in no order) ----- Danny Young making the half court 3 to win the game against the Pistons (in like 1990, I can't remember I was very young) but the refs called it off and we lost. Chris Webber at Michigan calling the timeout that they didn't have. The whole collapse against the Lakers in the 4th quarter. You all know what I am talking about there. Nice block Sheed. Or maybe foul him? Anyhow... Tyson losing to Douglas. Tyson biting Evanders ear off. (Watched both on payperview) The Mark McGuire and Sammy Sosa home run chase. Hearing the crazy buzz when Kobe was scoring at will against the Raptors. Everyone was talking about it like he was going to break 100. Red Sox finally winning the World Series. And coming back from 3 down. -- Those are just a few, I am sure there are more buried in my head somewhere. What about you guys?
Interesting topic. Here are mine off the top of my head: - Jordan scores 35 in the first half against us in the 92 finals - Watching the Dream Team awarded Gold Medals - Holyfield vs Tyson: Zombie edition - Jerry Rice's record breaking TD - 2000 Game 7 WCF - Cal Ripken, Jr's HR in the All-Star game at Safeco field. The crowd went nuts. - Penny Hardaway lighting up Boston in the 95 playoffs. I couldn't tell you which game it was, but Penny took over. He was my favorite player at the time.
I was at that All-Star game in Seattle. For me, it goes from games I have been to. that ASG 2006 World Series game 5 in St. Louis and saw the Cards win it all! (city shut down that night, can't wait to see what it would be like here in Portland) 2005 NFC Championship game, crazy atmosphere and game last years OSU upset of #1 USC Last nights UFC 102 at the rose garden.
Aside from the absolute rapage parking lots were performing on people, it was a really fun game to attend. $50 for the parking stucture across from the park was insane. I think I parked about a mile away and still had to pay $20.
Flutie Huskies beating Oklahoma in the Orange bowl Blazers win game 6 in Phoenix, WCF Seahawks beating the Panthers in the NFC Championship game Tiger's first Masters win Beavers whooping Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl Red Sox winning 4 straight vs the Yankees WCF game 7, Lakers vs Blazers Huskies snapping Miami's ridiculously long home winning streak Dream team Last summer's dream team Probably a ton more.....
Allan Houston GW to beat Miami in 1999. Larry johnson 4-point play. Giants win the Superbowl in 2008. Yankees win the World Series in 2009.
Giants beating the Patriots*. That was awesome. Manny Pacquiao destroying Oscar De La Hoya. Tyson v. Frank Bruno fight in 1996 (watched that live, it was awesome talking shit with the Brits) Bunch of Blazer games from the early 90s. too many to list probably.
1) "Blazers Win!! Blazers Win!! Blazers Win!!" 2) "Do you believe in miracles?!!" 3) Gibson's walk-off
You asked for favorite so that excludes Game 7 in LA. Without doubt my most miserable sports experience, and my car blew its power steering on the way home on I-5. Favorite, #1 has to be being at the Oakland Coliseum when the A's won the World Series in 1974. I've seen teams win titles on TV but this was the first, and so far the only, time I was actually present. Also on the list: Blazers beating the Jazz in 1999 semis. A's sweeping Dead Sox in 1990 ALCS. Those are on my top "I was there" moments. Favorite "I was not there" moments: "The game is over!" - 1990 Western Conference Final Game 6 A's win 1972, 1973, 1989 World Series The home run chase
A few of mine were the Braves winning the World Series in 1995. Francisco Cabrera's RBI single with Sid bream scoring from 2nd against Pittsburgh to win the NL Championship in 1992. Grew up in Chicago, so each of the Bulls titles were memorable. The latter 3 mroe so, because it was fun watching those teams dominate teams on any given night. The 72 win season was incredible to experience. 1985 Bears Superbowl win was awesome. City went CRAZY. Absolutely nuts.
Scoring 2 home runs ON WALKS in my 2nd season of Little League. Watching the Mariners win a 15 inning game against the Rangers in Kingdome box seats by the dugout. Living in Hollywood when the Blazers swept LA on the way to their only title.
Some of my favorites that I witnessed live (on tv) would be: -The Blazers miracle minute against the Dallas Mavericks. -The Detroit/Indiana brawl. -Houston was down 10 to S.A. with under a minute, then Tmac goes off for 13 points in 35 seconds and Houston wins. -Kobe outscoring the Dallas team 62-61 through 3 quarters, including 30 in the third. -Red Socks being down 0-3 to the Yankees and coming back to win the series. -The Music City Miracle -Michael Phelps out-touching Milo Cavic in the 100 butterfly by .01 seconds. The replay was crazy. -Michael Phelps and the U.S. team winning the 4 x 100 relay thanks to Jason Lezak's incredible comeback. -Usain Bolt -The Dream Team -Forrest Griffin vs. Stephan Bonnar in the Ultimate Fighter 1 finale. Best fight I've ever seen. I'm sure there's many I'm forgetting.
Two off the top of my head: February 14, 1990: 2OT win against Magic's Lakers. The first Blazer game I ever watched. You can't help but become a fan after that performance. I was 12 at the time, and my parents were flipping through channels, and we happened upon the game, halfway through the 4th quarter. I asked if I could watch to the finish, and my mom said, "Sure... it's against the Lakers, so we'll probably lose. I didn't even realize we still had a team." She's as huge a fan as I am, even to this day. We both were cheering and hollering by the end of the second OT. I remember knowing even then, after seeing exactly 15 minutes of game time, that I'd seen something big, something special. That stands out to me, above all the others, as a "I remember where I was when" moment. Also, I saw Buster Douglas beat Mike Tyson live on HBO. That was a helluva fight. When Douglas made it to Round 3, my dad and I knew Tyson was in trouble. When the end came though, the punch was so powerful. It still came as a surprise to us.
Boise State beating OK in the Fiesta Bowl. Im a BSU fan and I couldve gone to the game and I will never ever forgive myself. But I did watch in a bar here in Boise and it was amazing. Roy buzzer beater vs. Houston. Its still fresh but will remain amazing over time. Winky Wright jabbing the shit out of Felix Trinidad in Vegas in '05. The fight itself sucked but I was there and if you havent ever been to a championship fight in person it is amazing energy even when the fight itself is boring. I highly recommend it. That was my first and I will never forget it. A's vs Giants World Series earthquake. Live near the Bay Area. Crazy. My eyes popping out of my head after Vince Carters first dunk in the dunk contest and madness that followed.
Beavers baseball team win the national championship 2 years in a row. Beavers crushing Notre Dame in the Fiesta Bowl. Trail Blazers getting the #1 pick (Oden) in the draft lottery. Trail Blazer playoff runs. Watching the Ducks hoops team (Ridnour & Jackson) beat Kansas (Hinrich & Collison) at the RG.
