Joel isn't going to show up this early either. That's fine by me. It's much more important that Joel and Miller are healthy for the playoffs. They aren't spring chickens and neither of them need the extra pre-season full court practice time. Get real.

Joel grabs rebounds and block shots. Miller is supposedly the key to the offense. This is a difference IMO in what is expected of each player.

Well, technically, he's the backup point guard right now, right?

I agree that I'd like to see him in the PF, even if it's just going through walkthroughs or talking with the guys watching tape or something.

Technically or not, he's acting like the back-up PG. Perhaps he is fishing with Outlaw to bond? Is he aware of the expectations that people have for him? This isn't Denver, this isn't the Clips, and this isn't even Philly.

So 5 of our players are here. I don't see any reason to worry about the 8(?) that aren't yet. When it becomes 12-1, then maybe you worry about the one.

I think questioning the whereabouts of the one major offseason addition is a fair question. Is Andre Miller serious about winning?

Is Travis a summertime slacker? Is Oden going to get injured again? Is KP jerking Roy, er, I mean, LMA around? Is Nate a moron? Is Paul Allen going to move the team to Seattle?

They are all fair questions, I'm just saying I'm personally not worried about Miller, since lots of other players also aren't here yet.

OK, but Miller is supposedly the veteran needed to elevate this team. I just think it would be nice for him to show up when the team's All-Star/All-NBA player is around. Maybe Blake is the answer?

And yes, unless Miller shows up soon, I may already be setting the template for criticisms of him this season.

I guess we'll see. All reports are that Miller isn't a buddy-buddy guy, so coming in early to hang out with the guys probably isn't in his nature. If he shows up to training camp not ready to go, then I think we'll have a problem.

Roy and Miller are both vets at this point. They, and Miller especially, know how to adapt to new teammates. Miller reportedly has studied the Blazers carefully on film. Training camp and preseason might be sufficient.

We as fans aren't really used to having veterans on this current incarnation of the team, so I'm hoping you are right on this one.

The guy played in 82 games each of the last two seasons. He had averages of 17 points, 6.9 assists, 4 rebounds, and 1.3 steals, 16.3 points, 6.5 assists, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.3 steals in those two seasons. He averaged 21.2 points, 5.3 assists, 6.3 rebounds, and 1.2 steals in the playoffs last season. It's hard to argue with those stats. If he has found something that works, I say keep with it.

Well, it hasn't worked, at least in terms of playoff success for his teams. I'm sure he'll report before camp, though, and try to get a head start on learning how to play with his new younger teammates.

Re: Miller. I remember reading somewhere that the great John Havlicek didn't even pick up a basketball between seasons. Didn't seem to hurt his career.

Michael Jordan worked his ass off in the summers. Didn't seem to hurt his career.

Compared with Havlicek and Miller, he was a bit injury-prone. Just think how good he could have been if he'd taken it a bit easy.

Perhaps Havlicek would have been the greatest player of all time had he worked on his game instead of a sixth man?

So many questions, none that have a definitive answer.
