http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/blogs/giants/index? There's rumors that Lincecum will miss tonight's start with a sore back and MadBum will start. No sources though just heresay.
Sweet, although I don't know who I'd rather watch throw tonight, him or Lincecum. Were Posey and him ever together at any level. If so, or even if not, I'd like to see Posey behind the plate with him.
Sanchez is also back. Giants need to finish strong and take the wildcard! I like the aggressive approach they've taken. A lot of other teams who still had a chance have thrown in the towel already.
I was thoroughly unimpressed. His fastball was only high 80's, not much movement on his breaking stuff. Apparently he lost some velocity about a month ago and they say his arm is tired. If that's the case why bring him up now and start the clock for arbitration? If it's not, and this is all he's got, why was he considered untouchable?
Back to back losses to the Padres are you kidding? This team is done. I'll give Bumgarner a few more starts, but I agree with WarriorFan nothing impressed me about him in his debut.
I dunno. If hes already lost velocity from the long year in the minors AND we rushed him up a little bit then I don't really think its a good idea to keep starting him. Its a recipe for him to get his ass whooped on the MLB level and really throw off his confidence and development mentally. Plus I can't see anything too good coming from him working his already-tired arm really hard. I also agree with you guys that his stuff wasn't very impressive. Like mentioned, hes allegedly got more velocity than he showed which is somewhat concerning but I'll keep telling myself hes just tired from the wear and tear of the season. I'm also really never a fan of three pitch starting pitchers or pitchers without a change-up. Considering the fact that hes sooooo young and wasn't workign with his best stuff I think he did do alright. Gave up a few big flies but thats very typical for young pitchers. He held his own but I don't want to have him wreck his arm trying to prove he can play at this level right now. He probably even needs some time at triple A next season before hes ready.
How can you expect a 20 year old to keep throwing the same velocity after going through an entire minor league season? This was his second minor league season too. It takes time to cultivate a strong arm to continue to throw consistent velocity AND control throughout season, let alone a MLB season. Adding the pressure of his first MLB start in a pennant race, I think he was pretty impressive and very composed. I'm not sure if they should keep throwing him out there this season.
