Ar you telling me that a multi-billion dollar business isnt going to have their "professional" referees over 700k?!? Really?!? Maybe im interpreting that wrong...Is it $700k per referee? This is pathetic...

I don't mind "bad" as long as they are consistently bad.

Saying that NBA players' health is at stake, Cleveland Cavaliers center Shaquille O'Neal told soon-to-be-locked-out NBA referees.

"The refs have been vital to this league for a long time. They should be treated accordingly," O'Neal told FanHouse Friday morning. "We need perfection out there. We don't need second best (replacements). The league needs to get this done."

The last time the NBA used replacement referees was in 1995-96, and NBA.com's David Aldridge reports that the union sent out a memo detailing how fines increased and prominent players, such as O'Neal, were injured.

"I feel for them. They work hard out there, just like we do," O'Neal said Friday. "When you look at all that's going on with the league. This is a big year. We need them out there."

I'm surprised more of them haven't backed the refs publicly. Can't hurt to have every ref in the league viewing you favorably in the future.

So does this help or hurt our team?

Current NBA refs don't give young guys who play aggressive defense much latitude. Oden was particularly victimized, but even Batum had some fouls called against him that I think a more veteran player would easily get away with.

On the other hand, I'm expecting a more physical game with more bad calls and missed calls, meaning Roy will probably get bodied up much more than he's used to. Aldridge may miss more of his finesse post moves as guys get away with shoving him more.

the umpires tried this shit in baseball a few years back and all turned in thier resignation papers in an act of solidarity. they were accepted and they all lost thier jobs.

fans dont give two shits about the refs, when was the last time you saw someone rocking a bavetta jersey?
