He isn't a QB. So I guess you're right... we don't need a change. We need a quarterback.

Right because our running offense would be SO much better with Costa.. The D would have no idea if Costa could pull the ball back out on the zone read option, they wouldnt key in on the RB at all ;)

Kinda like Oregon was pretty much done for after the BSU game? or kinda like how Masoli was being booed by the home crowd last year as well?

What good is he if he can't throw the ball, or hang onto it when he actually runs?

Who was saying Oregon was done after the BSU game? Maybe Beaver fans did but none of the ducks I know thought that was the case.

As to your second comment....right now every aspect of the team appears to be improving with the exception of the QB. You do realize that he has the worst passing effiency rating in the NCAA, right? That's pretty bad. With how he finished the season last year and having an entire off season to work on his mechanics, it wasn't a large logical leap to except his decision making and passing to at least stay the same. In fact he has appeared to regress. This isn't a simple timing issue or the Oline not giving him enough time (which he had plently of today). He seemed to blow a fuse in the BSU game and the big question is how to fix it. If Oregon plays Cal like they did Utah, they lose by at least two touchdowns.

I am not saying Costa is the answer but, at this point you would be stupid to not consider your options. My guess is if Costa's knee is healthy, Masoli has the Cal game to prove that he can throw a forward pass.

What good is a spread option QB if no one has to worry about him keeping it? Then the DB's just sit back and dont have to worry, and put a LB on the RB and the D is set. Look I'm not saying Masoli hasnt struggled, he has, and has been out of sync. But his his accuracy I'm going to venture to guess, will get better a lot faster than Costa's running ability will. And Thomas just isnt ready. Masoli right now offers the Ducks the best chance of winning.

Right.. and before playing Fresno State, BSU only allowed an average of 4 points per game. So by this early season logic, they MUST have been the BEST Defense in the nation. Today is the first game where he was actually given time by the O-line, and they hardly passed (which is fine, if running is working) I agree that if they play the same against Cal, they lose by 14.

Fun factoid for this game (congrats to the Ducks, btw...)

    QB stats From Team A: 6/21, 89 yds, 0 TD, 0 Int
    QB stats from Team B: 4/16, 95 yds, 0 TD, 1 Int.

One was Navy's triple option QB in a loss on the road to Pitt. One was Masoli against Utah's D. You make the call!

Also on another note... We sat in Section 4 and of the Former players who were at the game.. Jaison Williams and Kwame Aygeyman were in our section... in the 2nd Qtr J-Will went to go walk to the Student section and he walked by one row below us, so I reached out to shake his hand and as he went to high five my wife he almost fell back down the steps, I reached out to catch him and he grabbed my hand, and looked at me and said "I am sooooooo F****** up right now" and then walked up the steps. It was kinda funny, but at the same time took the cool factor out of meeting him.

Your point absolutely no sense. I am not ommitting any games and it's not like he has an entire offense to learn which appeared to be his limiting factor last year. Why would Kelly call a pass play when Masoli can't complete a simple out rout? Bottom line is that our returning starting QB is looking worse than he did last year while every other aspect of the team is improving. Unfortunately that is the one position were a regression of this magnitude will kill your season. If Costa is healthy I think there is a good chance you see him if the offense continues to struggle during the Cal game.

My point is that Its still a little early for Costa and co. just like last year.. it took a bit for this offense to get acclimated. I guess we will agree to disagree on who we think offers the Ducks a better chance to win.

I said that I don't know if Costa will give us a better chance to win, but neither do you. That's in the coaches hands For whatever reason, this is not the same Masoli who finished last year.We won't be able to only throw 3 passes in a half against any of our pac-10 opponents and win. If Costa can throw the ball and provide some continuity to the offense, I can live without the occasional long QB Run.

Masoli has shown me a lot more than Costa has. I agree this isnt the same Masoli.. but I also saw him struggle for a few games last year too. It is in the coaches hands you are correct, and I guess those coaches disagree with you on Masoli not being a QB.

I guess I'm just not a fan of the option. I grew up watching much less mobile Duck QB's. Joey Harrington couldn't scramble to save his life, but he is quite possibly the best Duck QB ever. I like the west coast offense.

thats fine.. I have heard others say the same thing.. but right now whether you or I like it, the Ducks run the spread, and until Thomas is ready, Masoli offers the best chance at winning. And right now he is the better Option QB that we have. Thats how I look at it at least.

You make it sound like I said a change should already have been made. I said that if Costa's knee is as healthy as advertised, Masoli probably has the Cal game to show some progress. Almost 1/3 of the season will be over at that point and you can't mortgage the rest of the season to wait for a player to get out of his funk. Listen to Kelly's post game comments... he sounds like a coach who is running out of patience.

Again this entire argument is moot if the Coaches don't think Costa's knee will hold up.

Dont you think that IF Costa was better than Masoli... he would be playing? and would have been starting? I'm not saying mortgage the season, so if Oregon starts losing with Masoli you may have a point, but right now they are winning and its with him at QB. And saying that this argument is moot if they dont think his knee wont hold up, doesnt make perfect sense either. His knee COULD be healthy, and still not play. Just like Thomas is healthy, he just doesnt offer Oregon the best shot at winning. That could possibly be the reason why Costa is still only on the field on PATs, but like you said neither of us know that... as we arent in the locker rooms.

Shiiiiit. Just tell Joey to grow a beard and give him a wig. Draw up some phony papers and start Harrington. It's not like he's busy in the NFL.

I'm not used to having shitty QBs. We've had some really good ones over the years. This shortage is really disheartening.
