Anyone want to bet that Sergio will be back in Europe within 3 years?

Good luck to Sergio in his new place. I think this might be his goodbye tour from the NBA - but I would be happy to see him stick around, as long as it is not on our team. He is certainly a nice guy with some skills, and as such - wishing him the best makes sense - but I honestly think that he might have a Sarunas Jasikevicius like career - a star in Europe where his aversion to defense and lack of elite athletic ability will not hound him as it did in the NBA.

At this point I am delighted to know he is the starting or backup PG of a team we play 4 times this upcoming year.

I actually think Sergio is better than most in here.. but some who are saying that he is the key to our dynasty... LOL! But I think he will prove to be an adequate backup, when allowed to play his free flowing style of Basketball. What I dont understand is the Sergio love but Nate hatred. I think Nate has shown a lot more as a coach than Sergio has as a player.

This is where I am with Sergio. I think he and Nate were simply not a good fit, and while 'Sarge' was trying to improve certain aspects of Sergio's game, I think overall Nate did more harm to Sergio's development than good. Sergio needs to play a certain style to blossom, and if allowed to do so I expect his shooting percentage will also improve. I'm rooting for Sergio to be successful. I really enjoy his style of basketball and watching him set up his teammates. I fully expect he will play in Europe when his NBA career is over; I don't think that fact will prove anything one way or the other.

Sergio will do well once he finds his game. Worst case: Brevin Knight. Best case: borderline all-star.

Anyhow, I would love to see Sergio start in Sac. That would be rad!

Please do. We've spent three years hearing how great Sergio is, how he's our PG of the future, how he's going to have a break out season and prove all the doubters wrong, how it's all Nate's fault that Sergio sucks, etc. Now, even after we get rid of the bum, we still get more of the same old shit (and yes, this thread REALLY should be labeled OT). Well, I wonder what the excuses will be this time.

Even with Udrih injured, I doubt if Sergio will start. He will probably lose the starting spot to Tyreke Evans, a rookie SG playing out of position at the point. Why? Because Evans has more talent in his left pinky than Sergio does in his whole body. And, if it takes an injury to Beno Udrih for Sergio to get his big break - well that pretty much tells you all you need to know about Sergio Rodriguez. He's not good enough to beat out a healthy Beno Udrih for the starting PG spot on a team that won 17 games last season.

I recommend he check out the 5th grade youth league at the local YMCA. He could totally dominate. At the very least he'd lead the league in offensive rebounding thanks to snaring all his own missed lay-ups.

I'm not as down on Sergio as some. His upside is the guy Sergio idolizes himself--Jason "White Chocolate" Williams. And he's basically right on target toward that career path. He can't shoot or defend, but he can make some really nifty passes and is fun to watch in an up-and-down game. A career PER of 14.4, which aint' great for a guy who can't play D.

Frankly, any guy who aspires one day to be Jason Williams doesn't belong on my team.

You're going to have a tough time proving he would be a good fit with this team. And until Sacramento is respectable, he would have to be overly impressive to get much praise from me.

Sergio is a far better playmaker than Jason Williams ever was.

Let's wait a few months, and then we can start assigning crow, hats, and other assorted foodstuffs.

I think there's a very large difference between the subset of players that "fit our team" (whether coaching style, offensive pace, focus on D, "choirboy", whatever) and the subset of players that "suck".

I'm fine with saying Sergio doesn't fit here. I just don't think Sergio sucks. I can't believe people who watch Steve Blake play 30mpg talk about Sergio being "by far the worst defender on the team". I also don't think even a healthy Beno Udrih would be starting over Sergio, especially in a Westphal system. And I have this feeling that if Sergio listens even one bit to Pete Carill, he'll start seeing a bunch more outlets for his creativity than he saw here.

Good luck in the other 78 games.

I have actually been looking forward to not having any more post about that pile of shit Sergio on this forum anymore.

I agree that Blake isn't a good man-to-man defender, but at least he's smart enough to know his limitations, understand the team defensive schemes, position himself accordiningly and funnel his man to the help defense. Sergio is an even worse man-to-man defender, but he also has no concept of team defense (unless he thinks his role in the team defense is to get beat by his man, chase him around the court and foul him from behind as the shot clock expires).

Man, have you so quickly forgotten NBA Champion Rasheed Wallace? It was about two years after he left before you stopped seeing a thread once a week about some good or bad game he had.

I'm not predicting that kind of lasting power for Sergio. He'll get about a dozen threads devoted to him over the season, and they'll boil down to:
    a) He's putting up better numbers now that he's finally "unleashed"
    and
    b) Sergio made Sportcenter!
    and
    c) He's losing a fucktastic number of games

Even his fans will get bored of following a 15-20 win team, and we'll finally be over it by All Star break.

Sergio is useless at guarding anyone.

Blake is useless at guarding anyone with speed.

Sergio's sins on defense are rooted in incompetence. Blake's are rooted in physical limitations--he's just not fast.

I personally stop short of calling Sergio a piece of shit. In fact, I don't really dislike him at all (don't think he's a very good player, but certainly don't hate him). What grates on me is the idiotic love fest that's been going on for the last three years from the Sergio apologists. If the guy had shown one ounce of improvement in any of his multiple glaring weaknesses (horrible shot, excessive turnovers, non-existant defense), I could actually see rooting for the guy to succeed. However, when he shows no improvement in these areas that so obviously need improving, and then his blindly devoted followers somehow want to blame that all on Nate, it's difficult to find him deserving of my sympathy.
