I mean, all he did was shoot himself lol Vick did a LOT worse IMO. And Plax is doing 2 years, with 2 years supervised after. Yeah, only a month more than Vick, but still. He is doing more time for shooting himself. Which player do you guys think committed the worse crime? I am a fan of Vick. I like him. I think what he did is worse, but I don't get that "gangster" feeling from him as much as I do with Plax. Plax thinks he is a thug. I think Vick just got caught up in the dogfighting game. Thoughts?
actually killing dogs or bringing a gun to where humans could get killed... Even though I think Plax is a dumbass they were too harsh to him...Vick's sentence was so long because he kept on lying to everybody and had no remorse until he knew he was busted
Strict and mandatory gun laws in NYC. I have no sympathy for Plax. They gave him a chance to plea out for about 3 months I think it was (ask Chutney, he's a big Giants' fan), and he didn't. Also, originally he didn't express much, if any, remorse. I think Vick's sentence was too long, to be honest. Yeah, it was absolutely disgusting what he did, but to hook him up on federal charges and give him that much prison time for hurting animals? Yeah, I understand he lied, but I don't think he was deserving of almost 2 years. I don't think Plax should be doing 2 years, either, but he had his chance to plea out and for not doing that, he deserves whatever his sentence was. Lets not forget to mention that asshole Stallworth.
Yep, that's the real injustice. He should have got way more time than either of them. I still can't believe he thought the fact that he flashed his high beams at the guy was some sort of defense.
I think Vick's jail time was one of the more egregious violations of human rights in a while. He killed some dogs. That sucks, but they were dogs. And from what I read, not cuddly "man's best friend" dogs but ones born and bred to kill others. How much time did Qyntel Woods get for dogfighting? Meanwhile, Plax violates a pretty strict (and universally known in NYC) law barring weapons. There's a reason there are mandatory sentences. Because NYC (or State? Not sure) has deemed that they don't want any effin' guns, period, in the city unless they're issued to you. I'm surprised he got less than the 3 years that I read was mandatory. I'm not saying I agree or disagree with the law, but it is the law, and the potential for a minimum of 3 yrs punishment it supposed to deter people. Obviously it didn't in Plaxico's case, since he decided that his elastic waistband was a proper holster. I shudder to think what he would've gotten if he had hurt someone other than himself. I'll still continue to push for harsher penalties for laws--because for every Plax that gets 2 yrs for shooting himself or Vick that gets 2 years for killing dogs, there are multiple-time child rapists in Vermont getting 60 days, a rapist-kidnapper who got off 40 years early and did it again, (and yes, I believe that's the first time I've quoted Huffington Post), etc.
Stallworth saved himself by taking responsibility and showing (apparently) sincere remorse. If he had fled the scene, or tried to lie/cover up what happened, he would have been hammered far worse. IMHO, Plax should have done less time, and Stallworth more......but this is what happens when you dare the system to make an example out of you!
BTW, the real outrage of the Vick case, is that 6 or 8 people who committed *the exact same crimes* were granted immunity in exchange for promising to testify against Vick. The authorities didn't give a hoot about the actual crime - they just wanted to convict a celebrity. Vick did his time, and the prosecution witnesses went right back to killing dogs and laughing all the way to the bank.
His jailtime primarily stemmed from the fact that he ran and profited from an illegal gambling operation, not the actual brutality committed against the dogs. As for Plax, I think NYC's gun laws could be a bit more flexible to consider contextual circumstances. But at the end of the day, it's not like they made this law up on the spot. He should have been more informed, more careful, and more sensible. Stallworth also took advantage of the fact that the prosecution didn't have an airtight case.
Yup. The guy was jaywalking and was difficult to see. The fact that Stallworth may have been drunk might not have really affected if he hit the guy or not (so the defense said and was believed).
I'm a dog lover, but I still think Vick is getting royally fucked. Stallworth kills a PERSON, but how many people do you think will picket his first game back? Vick kills some dogs, and yes I am very against the mistreatment of animals, but I think some people have their priorities screwed up. The man served his time. He paid dearly for his mistakes. Not only did he serve time, but he's in debt. Deep in debt. He deserves to be allowed to make a living.
Plaxico also tried to cover it up by getting rid of the gun. Pretty sure that was part of it. Stallworth would be the comparison to make here. That was weird.
