Josh Koscheck expressed interest in fighting Matt Hughes after his UFC 103 pummeling of Frank Trigg. Here is Hughes' response:

So now I suppose Kos will come back and say that he wants to make a name for himself at the expense of Hughes' tired old carcass, or something along those lines.

I don't blame Hughes for ducking Kos. What could he gain by fighting him? Other than proving something to himself, beating Kos would only put him in line to fight Fitch, or rematch Alves or St. Pierre. And it is pretty obvious how those fights would go. Losing to Kos, or getting shithammered (as most would predict), just cements his place as a washed up fighter.

Fights with Hallman, Serra, Trigg, and others of that same ilk are more sensible for Hughes.

But wars have been started over smaller slights than calling Kos a 'kid'.

Contrary to what Hughes has said, Koscheck is actually one of the oldest and most experienced welterweights in the UFC. He'll be turning 32 in November and has 15 fights in the UFC. He's only four years younger than Hughes, who has 18 UFC fights (but 50 overall).

Kos would have a very high chance of beating Hughes, and it would put him in a good position towards a title shot.

Kos managed to get GSP down temporarily. I think Kos could keep it standing and beat Hughes standing.

If he were to beat Hughes (high chance), and then a rematch with Alves (tough fight), then he could get a title shot.
