Along with 4th man in the RunTMC-years Warriors, Sarunas Marciulonis... with the NETS! (Just noticed that this is by Wojo, so maybe it's just intended to fuck with Blazer fans' heads.)
Is anyone else a little confused how a guy who is worth less than Paul Allen (not by a lot though, like less than 1 billion) is going to be make Paul Allen feel like a "mom and pop" store owner? Shouldn't the guy who makes Paul Allen feel like a "mom and pop" owner, be worth substantially more than Paul Allen, and not less?
I know that caught my eye too. However I'm guessing they are talking about the way this guy spends his money. Sounds like he lights cigars with thousand dollar bills and whatnot. They compared him to James Bond!!! The jet-setting attitude. Women in hotels. Questionable associates. He'll definitely bring SOMETHING different to the league. I must admit, I'm intrigued.
That must be the reasoning. I'm all for a guy on the East coast spending money like it grows on trees. Let him be the one who over-pays for mediocre players and pulls a Portland of the past.
Wojo seems to write the article as if there is no salary cap, and this guy is just going to blow away the league with a huge payroll. Good for him if he buys the team. We definitely need more owners treating their teams as a hobby, not a business, and hopefully it does lead tot heir move to Brooklyn.
Maybe this will give Veektor another shot at the NBA? If Stern turns a blind eye to this guy's possible connections to the Russian Mafia, then he should be run out of the NBA on a rail.
According to Forbes, Paul Allen is worth 10.6 billion. The guy buying the Nets is worth 9.5 billion. How exactly is that '50 times over'?
If every time he buys and sells the guy, he loses 20M, then he could buy him (for the 9.5B). sell him for 9.48B, buy him back for 9.5B, etc. That's how.
Meh. It wouldn't surprise me if other existing owners have similar backgrounds. Not necessarily the Russian Mafia, per se, but criminal side businesses and such.
I sent this note to the Woj. "I may not be good with numbers but isn't Allen's $10.5 billion net worth more than Mikhail Prokhorov's $9 billion? Say hi to Warkentein for Blazer Nation."
Don't we still own Sabas' rights? If he were to come back, I'd welcome him as a third center/mentor to GO.
I believe it's through the Chuck Norris principle. If Paul Allen has 10 billion dollars and you have 10 billion dollars, Paul Allen has more money than you. In this case, 50 times over.
