Should he he have great skill? Numbers? Winner? Clutch play? Combinations? Great NBA player? Great College player? Ambassador? International player? What components do you judge?
I guess good stats..because no one followed, when I said Sam Cassell, the WINNER, shouldnt make it to HOF,,,
I think you have to be a winner to be in the HOF. If you were a loser your whole career then you dont have a real good chance of getting in because the Hall of Fame is about "being great" and being great means winning games and having success. But just because, say Robert Horry won 6 championships, he wont get in. You have to have dominated the League or put up very good numbers to help your team win. Anyway, just my 2 cents.
It really depends for me. There really isn't a certain thing that I judge on, but I take into consideration their entire basketball career (because it's not the NBA HOF, it's the basketball HOF).Some things I look at are personal stats, team success over the years, career accomplishments, impact on the game and the league, etc.
By the way, there are certain sites that have a Hall of Fame monitor, where they monitor an active player's chances at making the HOF by measuring statistical accomplishments and what not.Obviously it isn't 100% accurate or fool-proof, but it is interesting sometimes to compare players and such.
i base it on if they have actually made a difference in baskebtall.. like if you invented it. you're going into the HOF.. you don't even have to be good. you just have to make a difference to the game.. lots of players get in the hall of fame because of this. i think you should judge on greatness, impact on the game, and being the first to do something, like pioneers in the game.

Wilkins?basketballreference.com has hall of fame probablility. Bruce Bowen has a ZERO percent chance of making it.
stats maybe,,,but being a winner is much more important...an example of this would be dennis rodman...the man didnt have incredible stats, but wherever he went he was a winner...sure, he may not have been the focal point of the teams roster, but he was definitely a neccessity to a teams growth and success...he also redefined the way a smaller forward could rebound a bal
Im sure there isnt a specific criteria. Jkidd has and never will win the MVP award but he seems to be a lock.

Either way you would be wrong.
