    Well let's see................ I'm a Christian and I....................

The church I attend in Vancouver runs a free medical/dental clinic open days & evenings. It's open to all without question. We have a full staff of MD, DMD, RN... and provide translators in numerous languages. We tried opening another clinic in downtown Vancouver, but some liberals were so opposed about the poor & needy getting free healthcare they petitioned the city and we opted not to enter into a long fight. I do some landscaping and risk managment work for them (for free, of course).

I used to cook at the Salvation Army for the poor but had to give it up when we moved. I've ran two food banks and give both money and food to one now. I give monthly to the Union Gospel Mission and the Raphael House for battered women. I also support a group that provides free healthcare for people in countries where there is no healthcare. I also give money to a few other charities and am part of a few programs- one grows and harvests fruits & vegies for food banks, one provides school supplies for a few schools in poor areas and I am an active participant in giving free seminars and two job fairs for unemployed people. Every Christmas I take some personal money and take a few kids thru a program shopping for Christmas gifts for then and their families. And as a veteran (after getting laid off from my job finding and assisting homeless vets during the Clinton administration when he felt homeless vets didn't need federal help) I'm involved in a couple of vet charities. I participate in the Pulmonary Hypertension fund raising events (the disease my daughter is dying from). Lastly, I take calls at PBS during their money raising activities.

All told, in just money alone, I give 15% of what I make for the poor.

So, um, even though I'm an independent and may not do as much as others (especially liberals like yourself), why do you ask?

I haven't been to church in years other than some weddings, but my CCD as a young Catholic child did teach me that Proverbs is from the Old Testament.

So, you may want to direct your post toward fundamentalist Christians and Hebrews. :dunno:

Kind of depends on your definition of "scripture", I guess. I don't take the Old Testament literally, but rather figuratively. :dunno:
