I had to LOL at that one, shooter. Because WA, CO, CA and NY (sorry if I'm leaving out anyone) are bastions of conservatism.

The liberal douches reside in the heavily populated metro areas. If you watch the election results democrats carry Multnomah, Washington, Clackamas counties by a fairly large margin. Like 70 something percent to twenty.

That's because cities have a mixing of cultures, which makes people used to other ideas and tolerant of different kinds of folks, minorities, immigrants, poor and homeless people, etc, so they are inclined to be liberal.

That and the conservative sisterfuckers are living out in the backwoods, where they belong.

Hmm. I might have overreacted a bit there.

I think there is some if not a lot of truth to that. That could be the reason why I'm a more left than many of the peeps in my family.

Really? I hadn't thought of that! Wow. What an insight.

It never occurred to me. Except, of course, I live in Idaho.

Then why the hell are you surprised that the poll is more politically diverse than the state of Oregon??

Because we're definitely in the minority. And most of us seemed to have lived in Portland or Eugene at some point.

Minstrel is the only one I can think of off the top of my head who just adopted the Blazers never having lived in Oregon. I'm probably forgetting a few others, but I doubt many.

Anyway, I didn't say I was "surprised." It's actually about how I expected. After all, I read a fair number of the political threads here.

I just think it's interesting that the politics on this forum tend to be much more diverse than what you would generally ascribe to a population that mostly lives (or lived) in urban Oregon.

Couldn't find the "None of the above" choice.

I live my life by The Golden Rule, so the party concept just doesn't work for me.

They are all about controlling people, a very un-American idea to start with, but they all have different things about us that they want to control. With some it's our ability to travel and communicate, or our chances at making a better life for ourselves, or our freedom to look or act differently, or our desire to grow intellectually, or our access to simple healthcare when we have a toothache or lung cancer, or our right to own property or bear arms.

No party can represent all my views, nor does any party impress me as competent enough to lead. So I am left to individually decide on each candidate and issue who/what is the right choice (no puns intended). With candidates it is usually the lesser of 2 evils.

For obvious reasons, The Golden Rule doesn't work too well if you start from a base that includes hate or fear.

This means I usually, but not always, lean left in my voting.

Depending on the issue, all parties are very un-American (from a Constitutional standpoint and often from a humane standpoint) in their views of some. The hypocrisy is sickening.
