Nice try. I was just making the case that Chicago would be a great town for the Olympics.

Having spent two months in Chicago I can say Chicago has some great things. Barfo is wrong in his claim about Chicago's history, it's a city with great historical importance and a wonderful place to visit. But I agree with Barfo 100% that it isn't much different than any other major city for what it has to offer today, and he is right about the weather being garbage.

You should write for the National Enquirer. You could even find "dirt" here:

    http://www.eastman.com/Brands/Eastman_EastaPure/Pages/Clean_Room.aspx

If by "friends" you had meant every single resident of Chicago, Dems, Reps, Inds...then there'd be something to agree on.

The entire city profits in many different ways from hosting an Olympics, if they do it right.

Developers and builders, largely a right-wing conservative bunch, would profit the most financially.

Why no outcry from the Dems denouncing Obama for stuffing the personal coffers of all these conservatives?

You clearly don't understand Chicago commercial real estate. The entire establishment is beholden to the Chicago political machine.

No need. I lived there, you haven't. You can feel free to tell me about any place I haven't lived.

For someone talking about "ignorance", it seems surprising you'd be telling me where I've lived and where I haven't. I suspect you might be ignorant about that subject. Feel free to prove me wrong about that by listing the places I've lived.

In any case, living there is hardly relevant. It's the visitor perspective that matters for this discussion.

Barfo has lived beneath the crust of the earth and ate cheese with the man on the moon on a neutral gray landscape. Barfo has experienced the lushness of New Zealand and the brutal red desert of Mars; walked harsh lines in the sands of Australia's barren flats and floated through the deadly gasses of Jupiter.

You know how barfo served three tours in 'Nam? Well, I'm in Corpus Christi on business a month ago, and I had this eight-foot tall Asian waiter which made me a little curious, so I asked him his name, and sure enough it's Ho Tran barfo!

I remember one time barfo took his family to Sea World... they were watching Shamu the whale when barfo got splashed! So barfo yells, 'I'm barfo and no one gets me wet!' So he climbs into the tank, grabs Shamu and throws the whale into the audience, splashes him and yells, 'How do you like it?!' And then damn if barfo didn't step in there and finish the show!

Okay, how long did you live in Chicago? How much time have you spent there? If you have lived in Chicago, I'll happily retract what I said and we'll agree to disagree. Also, please list all the places you have lived. You seem to feel free sharing your opinions, but never supplying the basis for your opiinions.

I sense a backtrack here. You're now placing yourself as the "visitor" vs. someone who actually lived there, and claiming that view is superior. Who would know more about a city, a visitor or a resident? You may know about the Sears Tower, Grant Park and the Magnificent Mile, but would you know about all the amazing ethnic neighborhoods? The remarkable architecture in Oak Park? The waterfront that runs from the Midway to Evanston? The unbelievable art museums and cultural offerings? The best food scene in the country?

Until you prove me wrong, I'll continue to state that your view is based on ignorance.
