After a busy spring and summer, wifey and I decided to take some time off and travel to Mexico. We're staying at the Casa Iguana....in a small town south of Puerto Vallarta. Here is where we have been spending most of our time. Our little corner of the beach is full of pelicans, who compete for food with the locals who fish off the rocks and in the surf Here is a pic of the pool and the hottub at the place where we are staying. Two ladies up the street from where we stay sell homemade tortillas in front of their home. You get a big bag for ten pesos. Our favorite place to eat...other than the beach is My Tonys....sort of a treehouse palapa thing he built on top of his house on the edge of the jungle. Instead of handing you a printed menu they bring this tray out, tell you it is the menu and how they can cook it for you. They have orchids growing in the restaurant
Gotta take the wife on the canopy tour: http://www.canopytours-vallarta.com/canopy.html Go get some Sea Trout: http://marinamismaloya.com/fishing-charters/index.htm
Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately, Boca Bento is closed because this is the offseason. You are spot on about the canopy tours. We've done them before and they are fantastic. We've spent a lot of time snorkeling and taking underwater pics. After I finish editing them I'll put a few up for you guys to check out.
holy shit, its cheap as fuck to fly there. i might have to go there for work this month and checked prices, its only $170 each way.
You got me checking this out too. It's been a decade since I lasted traveled through Mexico. I used to sneer at the gringo hotels, but now that I've got a 2 and 4 year old, it sounds kind of appealing. Is it reasonably kid-friendly?
Tenia pensar en esto un momento, pero ahora entiendo. No se si existe, pero claro que hay algo peor. Fuck, my spanish sucks now. There was a time I was damned near fluent. That time has clearly passed. Demasiado tequilla. Pero me vale.
I'd say its very kid friendly. Now, having said that, I would also say there are a wide variety of options in this department. Kind of depends on you, your kids, and your wifey in regards to what I would reccomend. You could do all inclusive American style, el cheapo all inclusive Mexican style, or just rent a cheap suite near a nice family friendly beach. The beach scene is family friendly, whether you are downtown, at Los Muertos, or in any one of the small towns around PV.
Thanks. I was in Vallarta about 15 years ago and I hated it. I'd been backpacking around central Mexico, and all the gringos/crass tourism of the coast kind of turned me off. But my life was definitely at a much different point than it is now. Now I just want some damned sun, sand and Negra Modelo. And a place for the little rascals to build sand castles.
aren't mexican beaches pretty dirty still? I only go to Acapulco but the bay is beautiful but I'd never swim in the water. Only the pool for me. hawaii on the other hand...
