It's hard for people to believe Nate is a great coach because they only see his short-comings. I've been on the pro-Nate bandwagon for 3 years.

Charley Rosen has repeatedly shown he is an idiot for several reasons. He has a great knowledge of basketball, but little knowledge of the current NBA. So, take anything he says with very large grains of salt.

However, I agree with much of his take in this article. Nate and KP should be given props for getting the players to come in early every year and play hard.

Nate, Pop, and Sloan are all the same type of coach in my mind. I agree with Rosen that they are the best type of coach out there.

I consider Nate a good coach. Far from being great.

Rosen hasn't ever impressed me with his insights/takes, so even though I like what Nate has done in PDX it doesn't really matter to me that apparently Charley does too.

I will say this in defense of his lowest rated coach...

    http://www.nba.com/history/records/victories_coaches.html

...could someone remind me of all the juggernaut teams that DN rolled up all those wins with? He's had some talent and of course records like that are largely about longevity, but dude has won with some pretty mediocre talent. With Rosen taking personal swipes it leads me to believe his poor grade is based on some personal beef.

Rosen said Roy was a bust. Can't stand that guy. But nice props for Nate I guess.

I think Nate does a fantastic job - but it is hard to take anything Rosen says seriously. You have no clue what kind of cock-eye bullshit he spews this time...

I think Charlie Rosen should quit his job and go work somewhere as a random number generator...

He got a ton of wins in his first stint in Golden State with the Run TMC teams. Dallas won a bunch of games with him as the coach as well.

I think Nellie deserves the grade he got. His no defense, all small forward offense is horrific. The dude just doesn't give one shit anymore.

I live in the Bay Area and listen to him interviewed dozens of times a year on local sports talk... dude can be a fantastic interview. I don't get the doesn't give a shit anymore vibe from him at all. Dude has 10's of millions of dollars in the bank and houses all over the world, yet he's still coaching at 69 years old.

Since he hasn't been (and isn't) the GM in his 2nd stint with the W's, I can't join you in blaming him for doing the best he can with the players he has. Feel free to remind me of all the decent-great Bigs he's driven off and buried on the bench behind his precious all SF lineup he's been running. Here's guessing emerging young PF Anthony Randolph gets a prominent role with them this year too.

If you're old enough to recall his first coaching gig in Milwalkee (pre-TMC) his lineups were huge and plodding using a point forward (which hadn't really been done full time), two shooting guards, Terry Cummings and a plethora of "bid uglys". Again he went with the best players he had.

He'll turn the winningest coach of all time this season and his greatest talents have been Terry Cummings and Tim Hardaway.

I got the impression he didn't give a damn after watching him on the sidelines the last couple of years. I could be wrong about that.

I didn't mean to imply I was disparaging the job he did in the past. Nellie managed to get a whole lot out of very little many, many years in a row.

It's just that this last year he did a pretty shit job. At least from what I could tell as a completely uninterested observer. Maybe he did a masterful job last year and that team should have lost 75 games?

To be honest I can completely understand why Nellie wouldn't give two shits about his job at Golden State. The current management team is a disaster. Why should he care?

Because he is the one that installed them? He was the one that pushed Chris Mullin that put the team he gave Nellie that went to the 2nd round in the playoffs and installed Nellie as a coach...

If Nellie do not care because the management team he insisted on after pushing Mullin is no good... well...

I am not a fan of Mark Cuban - but with time it is getting harder and harder to feel bad about the way he treated Nellie...

I agree with most of what you said - but Hardaway? I would take Weber, Mullin, or Richmond over him. (I assume you aren't counting his Dallas days, as those teams clearly had some good talent)

Weber was with Don for his rookie year only so... but Dirk and Nash should have been mentioned. I'll also grant you Run TMC is probably a pick your favorite flavor call... though I'd go 1.Hardaway 2.Richmond 3.Mullin

Yeah, the disrespect he is shown on this board by many "quality posters" borderlines on the absurd IMO.

Please. He coached Dirk Nowitzski and Steve Nash. Two former NBA MVPs, one of them a two-time MVP. He also coached Chris Mullin. It may be time to edit your original post.

    LOL

their owner (Chris Cohan) is a schmuck... his actions have made me appreciate having PA. When he's been at the franchise crossroads he's come up short sited and cheap. Word is he's selling. As a hoops fan, I hope they get someone good this time.

Last year's Warriors were done in when centerpiece Monta Ellis messed up his ankle in the offseason. While their main guys are a mess behind a mike, they do have some talent. I know everyone is predicting they'll implode, but I wouldn't be surprised to see them in the playoff hunt if things were to break their way.

He blasts a few people, personal attacks. George Karl for one.

I bet Nate would be embarassed to be linked to the guy.
