I was happy with Sergio and Steve splitting time, and never wanted Andre simply due to age, bad fit stylewise, inability to stick with a team. Now we find out he's a dick on top of it all. After listening to the Clips dismantle our PG's, I wish we'd seen what a Sergio/Sebastian duo could be like. Blazers management and many fans give up too quickly on young players.
Yeah, Sergio is tearing it up in Sacramento and never complained about playing time while he was here. The only problem with his complaints about playing time was somehow he didn't realize like some other posters on this board that he was a shitty basketball player. That's why he'll ride the pine the entire season in Sacto. Keep living in your little fantasy world.
That's funny, pretty sure Sergio did last year. Miller is a different situation anyways. He's actually good and deserves more minutes than Blake, unlike Sergio. For the record McMillan never said Miller wouldn't play more than Blake, just that he might not start. Playing time isn't the issue.
For the record, read that Miller's quote is about starting, not about playing time. After doing so, let's talk on a level playing field.
Both Sergio and Rudy have 'whined' to the media about PT in the last year. With a team this deep guys are gonna feel shortchanged when it comes to minutes, but in the end if we're winning it will all get glossed over.
Really? When did Rudy "whine" about PT. Also, Miller is "whining" about starting, not PT. And yes, I do realize I set up a tangent argument that is almost impossible to defend. So I concede that I shouldn't have posted that generic 'PT" sentence.
Yeah I already amended that post. Care to comment on a new player whining about not starting? A complaint that contradicts his own coach's words to the media?
Good to see we're on the same page now. http://www.sportstwo.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2130943&postcount=50 Not an ideal situation but I don't see it preventing the Blazers from piling up W's, which is all that matters.
Rudy was reportedly unhappy about the prospect of us signing Hedo because it would cut into his minutes. To a veteran like Miller, who's been starting and playing at a high level for almost a decade now I think being labeled as a 'starter' is a symbol of respect, one that he feels he's earned. Nate can get these young guys and role players to buy into his 'it doesn't matter if you start, it's who finishes' philosophy, but Miller has started all but 2 games in his last 500+ while playing ~36mpg, I wouldn't expect him to suddenly accept anything less out of the blue.
Anyone have a link of either Sergio or Rudy complaining about playing time? All you'll find is that Sergio's European agent did so once at the start of last season (deservedly, when after trading Jack to open minutes for Sergio, McMillan still wasn't playing Sergio enough), and that Rudy said the team signing Hedo might impact whether he was on the team long-term. Neither of those = a player complaining about minutes.
Sergio complained definitely. Only because he thought he was better than what he got, which judging from his stint with the Kings...he's obviously wrong. Rudy was actually getting really tired in the middle of the season. I could've sworn there was something said about playing too much.
Neither complained about time. They both complained about not being used correctly, or enough, when in the game. Rudy wanted plays run for him, and to have the ball to create. Sergio wanted to push the tempo, and be allowed to create. In both cases, Nate chose to slow it down and give the ball to Roy instead most of the time. Now even Roy is unhappy, with Miller taking so many of his posessions.
good thing he's been getting the opportunity to compete for a starting position (like most everyone else) or we might actually have a story. If they had told him right out when he had his meetings that he was either a bench player or starter no matter what, that would be messed up... again, good thing that didn't happen. I see nothing wrong with his quote. Maybe if I heard it in context but as a stand alone quote it's actually pretty benign. Dude wants to compete and has a high opinion of himself... so do most pro athletes. We're so lucky to have the same usual drama fan posters reading into it, assuming the worst and doing their thing. STOMP
I expect nothing less out of Miller than for him to want to compete and win the starting PG spot, and I would not want anything but him to be unhappy if he is not starting. He is a competitor. It hasn't been that long since Steve Blake launched up that 30 foot heave against Houston with the game on the line with way too much time left on the shot clock. That is the type of decision making you get with Steve Blake. That is why he is no good on the fast break. He panics when playing at a higher gear of speed. That is why we got Miller. The thing I wonder about more often then not, is if we have the right coach. This team isn't "too stacked". In fact when it comes to talent, I wouldn't even put this team #6 in talent level for Blazer teams over the past 22 years. So saying the team is too loaded is a bullshit call in my book.
I agree. It was stupid for Nate to come out and say, repeatedly, that Blake and Joel were his starters, long before training camp. Just as it was stupid for him to say, before Oden had even practiced, that Oden was his starting center. Stupid.
