I haven't worked since July. Number 500 of about 650 guys on the IBEW out of work list. They say it may take a year to get back to work. I hear some of the banks we bailed out had record profits again. Well I have time to boost my post count. I'm already up to 59!
It's I'm Broke Every Winter, I Block Every Walkway, or I've Been Every where' depending on who you talk to. Actually it is International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, but I'm Broke Every Winter seems to fit this year. Need an electrician?
Dang, I could have used you when I bought my hot tub and needed it hard wired in. I still may have a job coming up. I self wired a few wall heaters, but want to have it redone by a pro and then placed into a wall so the wires aren't exposed. How much per hour? I pay cash in small denominations in small unmarked bills.
I have a sliding scale....LOL. My regular hourly wage is$36 and change with benefits, but unreported cash in hand drops the hourly rate considerably. Blazer tickets would work also. I would have to come look at it. I do electrical, I don't repair the walls, etc. I guess I can use ABM for a reference as to my old age and character. I have been chasing him around to all these boards since about 1999. Attended a few blazer bashes.
What was that Peter said before the rooster crowed? "I don't know the man!!" In all honesty, those old bashes were quite fun. I remember you bringing your son one year. You're a good man, Charlie Brown.
We both went to the first three. He still checks the board. He's a Senior and is the point guard for Glencoe High in Hillsboro.
Bintin... we've needed electrical work like 4 times in the past 3 years and will definitely let you know when we need someone again. And heck... looks like we are both Hillsboroites. =) (live over by Brookwood Elementary)
Wow, I was thinking about getting into an apprenticeship a couple of years ago. Is this as bad as it's ever been?
It is as bad as it has been since the early 80's is what I hear. I moved here in '97 from N. Dak. and transferred my ticket in later on. Ironic thing is that for the first time in three centuries there is work in North Dakota. It's in the oil fields, outside, and the wind chill will be like -80, so I guess I won't be goin' there. I'm acclimated to Oregon now and would freeze to death.
Not really, but it bogs up the hall with guys who are lazy. I won't argue union stuff, never have. Everybody has a right to make a living. There are pros and cons to everything. I'm not rabid about my union affiliation, but it's the best for my overall situation. I'm referring to IBEW, I don't know about other unions. Our local allows contractors to reject anyone that they don't want working for them.
