True, but why the "Roybe" gloss when he's yet to act like anything but a player trying to adapt to a shoot-first/ball-first PG?

If the team is below .500 at the all star break and there aren't a ton of injuries to lay the blame on, Nate will be fired. Other then that, I can't see it happening.

:dunno: Actually, I first heard the name last summer. Roy had been complaining about how contract negotiations were going, and somebody broke a story about Roy now charging $50 for an autograph. The timing of the story made him sound as if he was getting obsessed with money.

    1. Nate is safe, unless of course Big Bill starts campaigning!

    :biglaugh:

    2. If the Blazers don't make the playoffs and the other Bill - Cowher, still needs a job?

    :drumroll:

    3. A third Bill, Russell phones Paul and advises that he can lead Team Oden to the promise land!

My point: Who's really out there that would truly impact the situation?

    Mike Krzyzewski?

I think Nate is safe as long as the players are with him. Coaches do lose the hearts and minds of the players and end up losing their jobs. Some guys can only keep the players' interest for a few years (Scott Skiles) and are really suited to be college coaches.

I don't look at the preseason and find any problems with the team. Roy hasn't looked particularly like the player he was last season, but he's not played big minutes like he will in the regular season. Guys (Oden, LMA, etc.) are dinged up and get games off. It's a chance for the coach to play guys who won't be getting regular minutes in the season to see what they can do. There's a 15th spot that players are auditioning for. And he has an important new player (Miller) that he needs to play enough in games that don't count to understand how to best utilize what he brings to the team.

I don't know that Nate is a great coach or anything like that. He hasn't proven it, and he hasn't proven to be a terrible one either.

I think he's certainly going to get his chance to prove himself for at least one season.

While it's fine to have your own visions of what the rotation should be, he's the coach and he's the one who has to answer for them in the end.

    My $.02

And I watched Maurice Cheeks coach the team and have no idea what the hell he was doing. Now, Nate is not Mo. He is 10x the coach that Cheeks was, however, I think an argument can be made that this team would have improved its record regardless of whether McMillan was here or not. The talent level of this team has risen consistently over the last four or so years. It parallels our record improving. We can't simply say, "we are a playoff team now because of the coaching of Nate McMillan."

I agree. Cheeks was historically bad and the team's talent pool has gotten better every year the last three years.

This year is going to be a significant challenge for Nate. I hope he is up to the task.

all the nate haters better buckle up...

hes not getting fired this year.

only way... miss playoffs or a bad bad round 1 exit and thats doubtful. Usually you get a pass if you make the playoffs the previous year. however with the talent we have... making playoffs is a must

Roy did an autograph signing. If people wanted to pay, so be it. He also signed autographs for free. My oldest daughter got one at the Tualatin Haggen last year in the produce section. Unless, of course, Roy grabbed my wallet when I wasn't looking and took $50 as my daughter handed him her notebook. :dunno:

Hmm, Andre Miller helped run Cheeks out of Philly. I think I see a connection. :devilwink:

As I said, the story was timed to make him look bad. "Humble young star turns into money grubbing jerk" makes a great storyline....and it comes true often enough to cause legit worry among fans.

FWIW, I don't believe Roy is being singled out. I suspect every rising star attracts the same concerns.

Maybe. Before Cheeks was fired, Philly was openly talking about blowing the team up. After he was fired, they decided to keep the team together and try to make the play-offs. That could indicate that Cheeks had lost the locker-room. OTOH, since A.I. 2.0 was the the team's star, he seems the more likely culprit than Miller. Or maybe it was an insecure GM trying to save his own job!

If Nate and KP have a falling out, at least it won't be because KP lacks job security and needs a scapegoat to save himself.

I was too cheap to buy his psp game (don't have a psp, so it seemed a frivolous investment) but he signed my playoff tickets I had in my wallet at that game crazy thing last week for free.

The thing is, the pieces this team has, we won't have a problem luring any coach to come and coach this team. Dream job.

I think Nate gets fired if for some reason he and Oden don't get along.
