My co-worker missed a week of work because he was sick, VERY sick. Not with the flu but withdrawal from a medication called 'Klonopin'. Apparently, this Benzo is a very powerful drug and extremely difficult to taper off of. According to his doctors, the withdrawal potential is worse than heroin! Long-time users, like he was, who are coming off the drug have to be monitored by doctors because it could be fatal. Why even take this medication?!
He didn't take it for seizers. His was a few things all related to anxiety and panic attacks. It seems that you either have to take this drug for the rest of your life or stay away from it completely.
He must've had some pretty serious episodes if they prescribed that stuff for him. That's some heavy duty shit right there. I wish him a speedy and complete recovery.
Benzodiazapenes are usually used for anxiety, stress, ptsd, depression. They are addictive. There are alternatives out there. Benzos have immediate effects which is why they are used so often. I've read that they are thinking they are best used in combination with the alternative medicines until those meds take effect. Some other types can take 2 weeks to 6 weeks to reach levels that alleviate the problems. The longer you are on Benzos, the harder the withdrawal.
