I'd give the first three rounds easily to Machida. He put on an absolute clinic in those three rounds and landed more power shots. Shogun was barely winning Round 3, but Machida won the round with a flurry at the end to steal it.

I give the edge to Shogun in Rnd 4 because he scored a take down after Machida lost his balance and Shogun pounced on him. He also landed a good left hook that caught the side of Machida's head.

Round 5 was a draw with back and forth exchanges. Shogun landed some nice kicks to the leg and Machida landed knees into the mid-section.

Not a very electrifying main event and both fighters spent too much time feeling each other out instead of pushing the action. I think they both showed too much respect for one another and Shogun didn't take the risks a challenger needs to take to win the title away.

The counter punches Machida landed were so damn quick and fluid, it is insane.

He's like the Floyd Mayweather of MMA. He really makes a skilled fighter miss badly when they try to hit him. Watch the fight with no sound and focus in on the 3rd round at how many times Shogun throws a kick or punch and completely misses.

Yeah, that is what I did. No sound. Joe Rogan's influence is just over bearing with the sound on.

As if they gave Rothwell a contract that gives him $50,000 just to show. Does nobody else know this guy sucks? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills!

    ^ Yep. Costly lesson.

Pat Barry could be out up to six months with a fractured wrist. Guess he'll have some time to spend that $130k.

    To the beach!

Pat Barry should thank AJ for the extra 60k.

Heh, I'm a bigger Machida fan than Shogun.

Easily? lol, I think you should re-watch it... when you are sober.

If anything I wanted to see if there was a way that I could say that Machida won the first 3 rounds, and Shogun won the first round, 2nd round was closer, but I still think Shogun had the edge. Round 3 was close but Machidas.

    4&5 were Shoguns.

After the BJ fight. They put a "please don't bleed to death" bonus clause in his contract! :devilwink:

I watched the fight on mute and I gave Machida round 1. Shogun landed some leg kicks, but Machida landed some nice counters and I think landed the more powerful shots. I think there was one point in the round where Shogun was staggered.

I, for once, kind of agree with Cecil Peoples.

Oh well, the rematch should be awesome. I don't think it'll be as close, honestly. I think Machida will have a brand new game plan. Should be interesting. Can Shogun make the adjustments?

yeah. the one thing shogun had in the first round were the knees to the legs and body(i think) when he went for the takedown but after watching the round again with no sound, i think machida had the edge in that round as well as the 2nd and 3rd.

Where does Shogun score in any of the first two rounds? He was grazing Machida and then getting hit hard by counter shots and those knees to the mid section. Do you get awarded points for grazing a fighter?

Shogun whiffed plenty in those first three rounds and Machida throw efficient strikes. Look at the rib cage of Shogun after he took those knees it's red and he was wincing.

Shogun's best connection in the first three rounds was an inadvertent head butt.

I didn't think either fighter took control of the last round.

I threw out the paper, but I decided to tally the leg kicks, body kicks, body knees, and punches, when I re-watched round 1 and 2. I was planning on doing it for the whole fight, but after the tallies were already in favour of Shogun for the first 2 rounds (which were considered the rounds that were unsure and could go to Machida), I didn't do rounds 3-5.

I don't have the sheet, but Shogun had like good 2 leg kicks, 2 good body kicks, and like 6 solid knees to Machida's legs.

While Machida had like 1 punch to the head, 3 knees to the body, and 1 solid flying knee to the body.

From the looks of it Shogun had the edge.

Same thing with round 2, Shogun had the edge, but it was close.

I didn't count misses or shots that just grazed the arms.

Did you rewatch it and replay the slow motion though? Machida got him with a shit load of counter punches right when Shogun landed his kicks.
