I'm thinking of hitting up the Bay Area the weekend of Nov. 20th for Blazers @ Golden State game (from LA)....few questions for our bay area friends.

    1. How far is the arena from Downtown SF? Would probably rather just stay in the city than in oakland. Is it accessible via public transport? Is it not advisable to take it at night (especially in a blazers jersey)?

    2. Does Oakland suck to stay in?

    3. Should I fly into SF or Oakland? Or would it just be easier if I drove the 5 hours from LA so I'll have a car?

    4. arena...is it pretty thuggy? I know Oakland gets a bad rap...are tickets easy to get?

    Thanks!

The Warriors arena is about a 20-25 minute drive from downtown SF, but you can and should take BART - it stops right there.

Downtown Oakland is still a bit sketchy - SF is much better, though more expensive. Berkeley is good too - there are some cheap places along Shattuck.

Southwest flies into Oakland, and you can take a bus to BART from the airport. BART also goes to SFO now too. You probably don't need a car, but it is nice.

Cant say about the arena, its been a few years since I was there, but I think they re-did it recently.

cool....i'd probably fly in and out of SFO if I do go and stay somewhere in SF....just because I don't really want to stay in Oakland and so I have things to do during the weekend. BART seems good....on the fence about it but at least it helps me logistically.

Make sure to mess with the BART cops. They're harmless.

stay in SF and take BART to the game. it's super easy and drops you off right at the arena. i've been going to games there that way for years, always rocking my blazers gear, and i've never had any problems. i think the warriors generally have great fans... they'll engage you in some good-natured give and take but they're not especially scary or thuggish. (save that for the raiders...) there's always a big contingent of blazers fans in oakland, too...

now if we can just end the hex we seem to have about playing there... i think we've lost like 8 in a row at that place, and i was there for every one :(

best way from SFO to Union Square? Is BART doable? How long does it take? They have some good deals going online right now....

There's a $17 each way shuttle from SFO to the airport but I'd rather take public transport if easy.

flight from LA + Hotel (Grand Hyatt) from Friday to Sunday is only $350....not too shabby.

Stay at the Four Seasons in SF. They will take you to the game in a Town Car. Tell 'em I sent you.

Fly man...a car would be annoying as hell in SF....Its all about the public transit. A bus or bart will take you anywhere you want to go.....i cant think of it right now but my friends swear by this one real sociable bar in SF...It has a huge outside area with park benches to chill at and have your brews...Zagziest....something like that...a little maxican lady bring homemade tamales in a little cart and they sell out in minutes....she makes many trips back and forth all night

The name is wrong...remind me if you are interested and ill get it to u

Could it be "Zeitgeist"? I've never been there or heard of the bar, but that seems like the closest possible word. Either that, or the bar was named "Zagnut" after the candy bar.
