We hate Replacement refs.. now we hate real refs. Who is left to bring back? Donaghy and Violet Palmer!!!!!!!! Make it happen!!!!!!
I think the referees met in the offseason and decided big men were simply going to accumulate fouls at an astonishing rate this year.
This isn't even a Greg thing any more. I mean 5 fouls on our entire 6'11 over front court on Tuesday, then 5 on both Greg and Joel tonight, and Nene and Martin fouling out. That's pretty crazy.
Here's what frustrates me: the replacement officials called the fouls because they were clueless. These guys knew exactly what they were doing.
It felt like the referees were handing out free throws randomly in the second half of the fourth quarter. It didn't seem biased against Portland, it just added a silly and unnecessary wildcard to the game. Breathe on someone and be called for a foul. Maybe.
I agree. I felt it was pretty shitty refereeing towards both teams that took the big men out of any rhythm they may have wanted to establish. It didn't help nor hurt Portland anymore than it helped or hurt Denver - both teams were victim of a real bad reffing crew tonight. Denver just made their free throws where we as a team decided to collectively fall apart via The Steve Blake Clutch Time Free Throw Virus.
Tonight it was the Andre Miller Virus. LMA and Oden caught it. Though, the Miller strain might be bacterial.
Easily the worst officiated game I've attended in person. No flow, phantom calls and refs anticipating contact that never happened. I think the refs needed a preseason.
I want to know who won the "first to foul out a center" contest. Whoever called that bogus foul on Nene won!
Actually I believe Brandon missed his before Andre. Considering Brandon has been around Steve Blake for a pretty long time I'm still connecting this to the Steve Blake Clutch Free Throw Virus.
After a day spent reading very believable Donaghy quotes, that was not exactly the type of officiating I wanted to see. The whole thing seemed, well, contrived and artificial. Late whistles, obvious make-up calls, and far too much "management" of the action. The over/under on that game was 200. The free throw parade in the last 7 minutes of that game got it really, really close to the over. I hate that I have to think something like that about this sport.
