Nate typically doesn't like to double team star players but wouldn't it be wise to give them different looks especially last night when Carmello was on fire? Make someone else hit a big shot.....
Seems to work a bit against us, which is why the Roy ISO play doesn't work anymore because teams know it'll burn them if they let Brandon go one-on-one in the final minutes. Then there's always a game or two every season to remind us that we can't let stars just do what they want on us.
Analysts have pointed out for years that the best way to defend Tim Duncan - one of the hardest to defend big men in the league in the last 20 years - is to give them different looks. The same principle applies for guys like Carmelo Anthony... Double team him some of the time, fake the double at other times, bring the second guy from different places on the floor, etc. Leaving someone out on the wing to do the best he can with a superstar like 'Melo is not fair to the defender, and is a cop-out for the coach. Give the guy some help.
