Im beginning to wonder if we might have trouble vs high scoring teams even with solid defense? Teams like the Grizz, Knicks, GS, Grizz, Mavs, Suns, ETC. I know we have some guys who can score but i dont think we can win shoot outs. Now granted most of those are bad teams but still... i wonder if consistent scoring could be an issue at times this season. Also the Blazers kinda remind me of the Hornets last year. Not much of a scoring punch. The Hornets were the darling in the off season yet ended up in the 7th seed and bounced easily from the playoffs. Its hard to imagine at the moment the blazers winning 50 no less 54.
I think San Antonio proved that Defense will trump any high powered offense. I kinda get what Nate is trying to do. Instill importance on the defensive end. Our biggest issue is perimeter defense right now. That takes timing and chemistry. Once we lock down on the perimeter, we will be unstoppable. Also, keep in mind that teams that "Run and Gun" don't defend well. So it's much easier to score on them. So have your D anchor them down and punish them offensively with more of a half court set. Now if we fall victim to their style of play, it will be extremely hard to beat them. Almost impossible and I see many fouls for our bigs. I hate to say it, but I doubt we will be running and gunning any time soon. We may be the new era Spurs.
see thats why i have always liked maggs... very good answer and his first response isnt "mixums a laker fan" cause he has no other answer to the question. i kinda agree with that said but i still think we might have trouble vs teams that score easily.
Right now? Hell yeah! Our timing is way off and players looked confused defensively. I'm sure many are absolutely frustrated right now, but I will tell you with confidence, once that light bulb clicks, we will all look at these growing pains as a silly overreaction. Thanks for the compliment.
Portland will have hot nights shooting and so will other teams (some more often then others). Some nights those team-wide hot shooting nights will coincide and other times games will be one sided. It seems you may have already forgotten how many blowouts Portland enjoyed late last season? Their solid defense and rebounding keeps them in most games even when they aren't hitting their shots. and please, the Grizz don't warrant a single mention of concern let alone twice the level of the mighty Knicks STOMP
ya know i have to wonder if we should deal for a guy like Stephen Jackson. I know hes a PR nightmare but hes the SF scoring punch we so badly need. i know KP wouldnt ruin his culture lol... but sjax would provide an answer to our scoring issues when roy and la are off
Oh hell yeah! Yeah I used to be a posting machine. I've been a little more settled lately, so I choose to post more quality than qty.
Are you kidding . . . if Nate would just get the ball to Oden and Bayless more, this team will score at will.
Portland led the league in points scored per possession last year, and the only players they've lost are scrubs. They have the same people that made that work, so whatever the problem might be (if there is one based on four games), it certainly isn't for a lack of the right tools. Personally, I think it's just rustiness.
