For all those that thought he would flourish after leaving the blazers.... When you cant get on the court with the worst team in the league, your NBA career is nearing the end
All? I can think of maybe 2 possibly 3 people who post around here regularly who thought he might look better in a different situation, in an up tempo offense. Myself? I don't wish any ill on him, I'm just glad I don't have to watch him play any more.
I thought he might do better where he has free reign to do whatever he wants, but apparently Westphal doesn't think he deserves to see the court.
He may have to join Ha in the club of overrated-shit Blazer players, that received way too much attention during the course of their decaying NBA careers.
In Sergio's defense (I can't believer I just wrote that?!) It's probably got less to do with him being worse than Udrih and Evans. But the writing is pretty clearly on the wall; Udrih is making the full MLE and Evans is a top 4 pick, those guys are going to get the burn and the time to develop. Depending on injuries and opportunities in Sacto I think he's going to be racking up a lot more DNPs and he'll probably return to Europe next year since I doubt there are going to be a lot of teams clamoring for his services with the cap declining and a lot sexier options in free agency.
The season is only a few games old. I think Sergio may have made a good connection in Portland that will help him out. If he puts in a call to his good friend Tonya Harding, it could be that Udrih or Evans will need some time off, and Sergio will have a chance to shine. barfo
I'm glad I decided to read the thread rather than posting my view, because you just said everything I wanted to but much better than I could have.
That's exactly it. It's a financial decision. The best guard on the team is not playing because they need to develop their more expensive assets to decide which to trade. Once the deadwood is gone, Sergio will start. Showcasing their flotsam and jetsam around the league is probably fooling a few fans.
As predicted, Sergio is finally playing for a coach who can maximize his talent while not exposing his weaknesses. As also predicted, Sergio is thriving in Westphal's system. Westphal is his Frank Layden. It took a great coach, who obviously sees Sergio's talent for passing to create a role specifically for him that uses that talent (Sergio, could you pass me a water bottle? Hey Serge, pass me a towel man.), without suffering the consequences of his horrible shooting, high turn over rate, and inability to guard anything more agile than a chair. Sergio has found his rightful place in the NBA as the worst PG on the worst team in the league. Sergio gets his first DNP - Coach's Decision and the Kings get their first win. He's finally found a role where he can help his team win games.
I am with Nik on this one. Sergio is a one trick pony - but he does his one trick very very well. The Kings, however, are probably right thinking that he is a one year rental and if they want to return to relevancy - it will be behind the people they drafted for their potential and the ones they are committed to. Good luck to Sergio. While he is not a good NBA basketball player - he seems like a nice person - so I hope he finds luck and happiness.
You're missing a few names there. Think about the completely undeserved love-fest for Victor and Monia.
Maybe MARIS should have toned it down the past couple of years ... I'd lay good money that better than half of the "hate" towards Sergio is rooted in the sycophantic posts he's made about the guy -- the other half? Well that's probably because he's not all that great.
