Artest is Not Concerned.

"I just worry about having fun, playing basketball and making more (YouTube) videos," he said. "That's what I worry about. I just focus on the positives. There are so many positives going on. Just being in L.A. is positive enough.

"It's the best situation. I have to take advantage of it and enjoy it. I don't know how long I'm going to be here. I signed for five years, but anybody can be traded. While I'm here, I'm going to enjoy this."

Some questioned the Lakers' signing of Artest.

"I'll tell you what, now that they've got Ron Artest, I couldn't think of anything better," Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban said recently. "If you would have said, what one player - and I'll get killed over this - what one player would you like to see on the Lakers? Ron Artest. Could you imagine? Ron Artest has got the ball, and Kobe (Bryant) is standing there, `Throw me the ball.' Thank you Ron Artest."

Others weren't quite as critical.

"I think it was a volatility trade," Clippers coach Mike Dunleavy said, referring to Ariza's departure to Houston and Artest's arrival in Los Angeles. "(Artest) gives you more, but, obviously, there is the question (that) he has had a past of some indiscretions. I don't think it's probably going to be an issue for them.

"I think from everything I've read, the guy's mindset seems to be pretty good."

Asked how Artest changes the Lakers, Denver Nuggets coach George Karl said:

"I think the thing I saw last year that got them over the top was their defense. After (a recent exhibition game), they showed they're a better defensive team now than they were last year. I don't know if it's all Ron Artest, but that's a big part of it. Ron's not going to force the game or create any offensive selfishness.

"He'll figure out the triangle (offense) and he'll be very effective in it."

Said former NBA player and current TNT commentator Kenny Smith:

"Ron Artest is usually the first- or second-best player on a team. Now he is the third or fourth option and he can carry you for weeks at a time. He can actually play defense, get 20 points and stop someone from scoring 20 points.

"I don't know three guys in the NBA that can do that."
