Oy. Another Experiment. Can we please get Nelson his last 20-whatever victories so he can grab the rest of his cash and leave before he ruins all the young talent on this team?
AMEN! Has Don Nelson been tested for ADD? Every year he has a new favorite player and distances himself from the rest of the group. He needs to retire in Hawaii and call it a career.
Are there any more Nelson supporters left here? I seem to remember Nelson saying AR was his point forward his rookie year and we hardly ever saw that. Nelson does not develop his players. It's like they have to fit his mold or else. I think we already saw what Nellie ball could do and that is take a team to the playoffs and then win a series they have no business winning and then falling apart the next season. You have to agree with me that Nelson's teams lack cohesiveness.
I'm a Nelson supporter but I don't support what he's doing now. Happy? We're 3 games in so it's still too early to judge but Randolph doesn't seem to be playing well and I think he needs PT.
Yes . And we are not three games in with Don Nelson. It's been like a 1,000,000,000 games already with the fossil of a coach that we have. If you believe in reincarnation, then Don Nelson was a big fat beached whale in a previous life. However, there's always hope. Don Nelson will get fired this year and Stephen Jackson will get traded to Charlotte. When fans start booing their own coach and player, then it's time to do something. That said, Anthony Randolph will be back and start playing like the ROY he shoulda been once Keith Smart gets promoted and we have a regular starting lineup. Let's get our players playing DEFENSE and their natural positions as a rule.
I can't support a coach that the players don't support. Even last year, it seemed that all the players were playing and listening to Nellie. Right now, it sounds like they abandoned ship, which seems like a result of Nellie abandoning ship. This is all presumptions and me reacting to a horrible start to the season.
I am not a Nelson supporter right now. Even with the injuries, the fact that Corey Maggette is averaging 23 minutes and 11.3 shots per game (3rd most shots on the team) makes me bananas. If you have a knucklehead who refuses to pass to the hot hand, and keeps wanting to shoot brick after brick from outside, you bench him. Is that not simple? And didn't Randolph already go through Nelson's silly gauntlet last year? He'll never be a true 5, IMO, because he'll never be thick enough. Biedrins is thin but he just has a different type of body, one with a solid lower base and good strength. Randolph looks like a rag doll out there when he plays center, flopping around and flailing as he gets manhandled by guys, even by guys like Camby. Radolph is a 4. Does that mean he needs to be Dirk Nowitzki... only if he's playing under Nellie, I guess. What ever happened to rebounding and defense being enough at the 4? He'll never be Austin Croshere. He'll never be Al Harrington. Yes, Randolph thinks he has a good jumper, and that needs to stop. But playing at the 5 is not the way to make him do that. Play him at the 4, and let him get weak-side blocks, put backs, alley-oops, tip-in dunks, and all the loose change he can find. Don't run any plays for him.
Actually, his jumper was looking pretty nice over the second half of last year and summer league, I want to see him develop that more, not less. He's kind of lost it so far this year, but then again we are only 4 games into the season. I think he can find it again. Granted, I'd rather have him playing near the rim, but having a jumper doesn't hurt, he just needs to be judicious with it and look for better shot selection. For example, he took a 3-pointer last night, that should never happen. He actually did quite a few good things last night, he just was having some trouble finishing. I don't really blame him much for the poor defense because he's being played out of position (as you mentioned). Kaman, Camby, and Jordan are huge and a tough matchup for anyone. Under the circumstances I think 14 rebounds in 29 minutes is damned impressive. Randolph is definitely struggling to find himself right now, but the talent is there, he needs to calm down and I think it will return.
I think Randolph is Nelson's prototypical center. He's a small forward with power forward size, so Nelson plays him one position higher. One wonders why Nowitzki wasn't made a center, but Antoine Walker was. Probably because Dirk could shoot. Now if you're a swingman, you definitely going to play power forward for Nelly.
Any chance we can bring this guy back? http://www.nba.com/dleague/playerfile/index.jsp?player=richard_hendrix We need bigger bodies in the paint. Screw small ball we're getting killed inside and on the glass and we don't make plays well enough to get away with it. We need a guy like Steve Nash or Jason Kidd. Something that can glue together this mish mash of a team.
