Harris, at least in his Dallas days, was a great defender. That's where he is a better fit than Andre. Parker - I think, is a much better scorer than Andre - but I might be wrong.
OK, that may be true, but who exactly are all these free agents he missed out on while waiting that would have been better fits? I can only think of Odom, and he was not seriously considering leaving LA. David Lee was concerned about PT. Sessions he still could have had if he wanted him. You're saying he missed out on Brandon Bass/McDyess etc.? I don't think backup 4 was our biggest priority unless that meant getting BPA or a blue chipper to form a future 3-man rotation up front (Millsap, Lee).
D seemed to be a throw in at the end of his paragraph on Parker's fit, and most of the discussion of fit with our PG tends to the offensive side of the ball. Look, I would obviously pefer Parker to Miller, as well as Harris. But I'm not getting where either has a much different style to their game than Miller does, where they are deemed in the good fit category, and Miller is included in worst possible fit. Sure Parker is a better scorer. He also has a usage rate equal to Brandon Roy's. So now, people will complain that Miller is ball dominant, and thus doesn't fit with Roy, but that all of a sudden doesn't apply to Parker? If the worry is a ball dominant guard alongside Roy, than parker is a much worse fit. Devin Harris' usage was on par with Roy's as well. So let's give Miller the same usage, and tell me his numbers won't look every bit as good as theirs do. Because statistically, and stylistically, he is on par. Again, I would take them both over him, but completely opposite styles somehow, in regards to fit? No.
There were a few others. I was highest on Odom because 1) he could fill 2 needs (SF, backup PF) instead of acquiring 2 separate players, and because 2) we would be severely injuring our rival, the Lakers, instead of the Jazz (Milsap), who won't really threaten us in the standings. There were other players taken by other teams while Pritchard had to wait on his offers.
That's why I said I was not sure about Parker. I do not think his usage was that high in Dallas - that's why I mentioned his Dallas performance. I agree with you that I do not think play D-Harris as he does in NJ next to Roy is going to work great.
Care to name them? My point is, this wasn't a good year for FAs, I guess he should have used the cap space in a trade instead, but he certainly didn't miss out on anyone siginificant while waiting on Hedo/Millsap. I really liked Odom as well, we reportedly pursued him but he wasn't interested.
Right, his usage wasn't that high, but stylistically, he was the same player he is now. Good finisher, can get to the basket. Not that good of a shooter. It's part of why I don't understand why peopel clamor for him, but say that Bayless can't fit here.
