One of the best things we saw tonight was how deep we are. I think our second unit was as good as our starting unit tonight. Bayless, Rudy, Martell, Travis and Joel really got up and down the floor, made some exciting plays and really picked up where the starters left off. It was pretty good to see.
I think he's crucial too. You made it sound like this team was screwed if Roy doesn't score. I think he proved tonight that he does more than score the basketball.
How am I trolling? Should I start a bunch of threads about Nate needing to be fired? Would that make me "legit"?
To be frank, the purpose of the Blazers isn't to maximize the numbers of their best player. It's to maximize wins. Certainly, it seems unlikely that the team will be continuously successfully if Roy scores 2 PPG. It seems equally unlikely that Roy will continue scoring 2 PPG. Roy's numbers may take a hit, though, and the team could be even better.
I never said the team was screwed if Roy doesn't score. I commented on a ridiculous post at the team winning all of their games if Roy scores 2 ppg. Christ. I like that the team beat one of the worst teams in the league. It was a good win and I hope they build upon it.
Should mods actually be labeling posters who aren't trolling as "trolls"? Minstrel, what's your take on this?
Personally, I don't think you're trolling. I just think your concerns are a bit premature.......just as I thought those regarding Nate were, as well.
Well put. There was a stretch of 5 or 6 games last year where Roy was scoring 30 a game. Every time he scored 30 a game, we lost. It became a kind of jinx for a while. Then, Roy scored 42 or something like that, and we won. Roy joked that (paraphrasing) "all I have to do is score 40 every game now." Roy scoring more, if the rest of the team is failing, doesn't help the Blazers. Likewise, Roy scoring 2, if the rest of the team is firing on all cylinders and creaming the opponent, doesn't hurt the Blazers. All that matters is the team's performance, and the score at the end of the game.
I don't think that makes him a troll, though. If he feels Miller, as the point guard, shooting a lot could be disruptive to team success, then it's reasonable for him to not like it even in a win. Certainly, McMillan's biggest critics have gone after him even after wins at times.
Jerryd Bayless' outside shot really looked good tonight. He has a ton of elevation on his shot and it wasn't flat. It's going to go a long way for his future and maybe eventually as a big-time player for us.
I'ts a clear statement. I don't think the team can be consistently successful with Roy averaging 2 ppg. I don't find that trollish or unreasonable.
