QB's out of the big 3 that I'd build around over Romo. Rivers Big Ben Carson Palmer Matty Ice Flacco Aaron Rodgers Matt Schaub Eli Manning And then its a toss up between Gay Cuddler and Romo. Again, when Romo proves he can lead his team when it really counts, then you can make a legitimate argument. Until then, it is just your biased, blinded homerism leading your way.
it sounds to me that it's more of your bias against him than anything else. you've got guys on your list less productive than romo that haven't taken their teams anywhere either.
Rivers - AFC Championship game Big Ben - 2x Super Bowl Champion Carson Palmer - PLayoffs and a former elite QB. Injuries derailed him, but he's got Cincy rolling. Matt Ryan - 1st year playoffs, turned ATL around along with Turner. Flacco - See Matt Ryan. Rodgers - Legit case to be considered with Romo, I'm just a bigger Rodgers fan. Schuab - See Rodgers Eli - Super Bowl Champ, and pretty clutch So two people on my list...
palmer has made the playoffs once and never won a game there. the bengals are "rolling" with the same record as the cowboys but a worse point differential. matt ryan has never won a playoff game. rodgers has never made the playoffs. same with schaub as a starter. schaub hasn't even shown he can stay healthy through an entire season as a starter. so like i said, a bunch of guys who haven't done anything more than romo yet for the most part have been less productive. and eli is not better than romo. he had one great postseason where he was clutch and won the superbowl. but he has been a far less productive player over the course of several seasons and outside of one year has his share of late season and playoff failures. and honestly, team success isn't necessarily everything in regards to how good a qb is. terrible qbs have played on very successful teams. but if you're going to hold romo's lack of team success "when it counts" against him like you are, you at least need to be consistent and do the same with other players as well.
You really couldn't set the bar any lower for Romo. He probably has the worst December+ track record for someone considered a good quarterback, that I've ever observed.
Really, anyone could have a better big game resume than Romo, it isn't that hard. Anyone around his level could be considered better simply due to their consistency. Romo cruises right through November. Then he plays the way he has, there really is little excuse for it. Yes, he has failed incredibly just on an individual level. Again I want to know exactly what kind of post-season success you expected with his level of performance in the past.
Palmer's ACL was shredded on the very first drive. Matt Ryan has shown more clutchness and composure in 1+ years than Romo has in his entire career. I admitted Schaub is right there with Romo, you can't make an argument for either guy really imo. Schaub gets hurt, Romo blows in the clutch. Give Rodgers an offensive line and a running game and I think he could get Green Bay into the post season. He's a good QB who gets beat the fuck up because of his offensive line. Romo might have better potential, but when the game is on the line, I think you're the only one here taking Romo over Eli. Eli's got the ring, Romo ain't got shit.
Romo is a good QB, but not a smart QB. If he can improve his decision making abilities, I think he can be considered amongst the elite.
