Thats a generous spot for Oregon, IMO. The computers really do love us. A blow out next week probably gets us to #11, which is cool.
Generous? We are below USC when one of our loses was to a higher ranked team. We beat USC and both of their losses were to lower ranked teams... what a fucking crock.
Dropping 5 spots after losing to Stanford isn't bad at all. What makes me laugh is all the people who said Oregon should never be ranked above Boise State. Yet i'm sure they aren't saying a word about the fact that we are below USC after actually man handling them.
Yes, but USC is USC and we are not. I remember one year Florida State was at 4-5 and still ranked in the top 20. For many schools, they get to live on reputation alone.
How is it the ducks lost to Stanford? Was there team overly confident and lost to a lower ranked team? I'd say that sounds a bit like usc vs oregon, if I didn't see the usc vs osu game the week before.
I really dont buy into the overconfidence thing... confident or not.. the Ducks were too small and didnt have the muscle to even hope to stop that Stanford attack. I think that saying it was because of The Ducks being overconfident takes away from the manhandling that Stanford gave the Ducks, and the Discipline they played with. I tip my cap to them.
Stanford wasn't coming off a bye week or on the road vs the Beavs right? Having attended the game this past weekend I can assure you that the Stanford crowd gave their team a real home field advantage. The fans are very close to the action and the 2nd tier of their stadium reverberates their foot stomping and yelling onto the field. The fans are well aware of this and delighted in the multiple false starts that the Oregon offense made. Their offense was just plain great. The O-line mashed Oregon's lighter front 7 for Toby. The receivers caught most everything thrown their way... there were quite a few tremendous grabs. Luck was really solid bouncing back from a few early monster hits to guide his team for a score seemingly at will vs a D that up till then had given up little this year. Both with his arm and feet, dude looked really solid. Isn't he a freshman? Maybe he's got a better hold on things now then a month ago? STOMP
Did you go to the Stanford-UW game, STOMP? I listened to it on the radio and the announcers were talking about how it's "mausoleum" quiet for games there---or was this game one that brought the fans out of the woodwork?
I watched the game. The stands seemed 2/3 full and people appluaded politely when Stanford scored. As to the game itself, Oregon wasn't pressuring the QB enough and they had guys open behind our LB's all day long. Obviously, very poor defensive play on our part.

Rankings didnt give the Ducks another 30 lbs of muscle per lineman. Rankings didnt make the Ducks pick their poison with Gerhart or Luck. Anywhoo.. just like Chip Kelly gives the team 1 day to mourn or celebrate a game.. I'm over it. Its tuesday now.. and Arizona St is the only football team on my mind.
I was responding to a poster who seemingly couldn't understand how a collegiate football team's performance level might vary. It's not like the games in a season happen in a vacuum where every factor is normalized, so I was just pointing out some things that could have played in here. Is it that big a stretch to say that most teams play better at home then on the road? The stats seem to indicate otherwise. No traveling and sleeping in strange hotel beds, opposing fans aren't drowning out the QB's signal calling etc... are you really arguing this? Maybe their genteel fans were up for this game as Oregon was ranked in the top 10. The stadium was filled about 90% with probably 30% of that being Duck fans. btw... it's a really really nice stadium, pretty intimate by football standards. My seats were front row on the 5 yard line which was sort of fun. We were really close to the action when it was in front of us but found ourselves watching the monitors half the time when they were on the other end. I walked up to the highest point to watch the start of the 2nd half and those seats were absolutely fine too with great views. Easy parking, nice people, great weather, their stupid band... I recommend it STOMP
What I find more amusing is that people are talking like its a over-confidence thing. Not many teams have gone undefeated in Pac 10 play... I believe only the only team to do that recently was the Trojans that played Texas in the NC game.. and believe be this Oregon team is not STACKED like those teams are. I find people's comments and way to twist things laughable, and pathetic at best.
You're being sarcastic, right? Stanford stadium (the new one) was not, and never has been loud. Usually the visiting team's crowd is louder than Stanford's. Oregon was no exception.
making a statement like that there is no chance that you were in attendance... none. I can assure you it was loud on the field level and that the foot stomping from the 2nd deck was very effective, especially on 3rd downs. Jumping out to a hot start and going on to score 50+ points, the Stanford team gave it's fans quite a bit to be excited about. Attached are a couple of photos. STOMP
I was in attendance, as I have been for many, many Stanford games, including "Big Game", homecoming, and USC games. It just isn't a loud, obnoxious football atmosphere. I assume you have been to games at places like Autzen, Husky Stadium, or even Reser? There is no comparison in terms of loudness from the crowd. The most pathetic thing about Standford's football crowd is the fact that they have to put the cheerleader on a microphone to try to get the student section cheering and sounding louder. It is sad and hilarious at the same time.
