They're obviously not going anywhere. They're arguably the worst team in the league and won't get any better this season. They'll probably be a top 2-3 pick in this year's draft. With that said, whose career will my Brown's jinx this year? I really want them to take a shot at Bradford, but i'm hesitant as well. I absolutely love Eric Berry and he'd do wonders on that team along with DQwell and Shaun Rogers. Since they've had a firesale for draft picks, I think they should trade up those picks and get another first rounder for a QB? Anyone?
We don't even know anything about Quinn though, has he really failed yet? He's played half a season and the Browns seem hesitant to pay him that bonus tied to playing time. I suppose he desperately wants out whether or not he's the next big star QB. I don't think any one player will probably turn things around for a while.
Thats why I propose starting from the ground up. And that usually means the D. Now, Shaun Rogers is getting old but he's still a good DT for another year or two (which should be enough years to start winning again, at the very least). Dqwell Jackson could be a DPY and Eric Berry is truly something special. I think a defensive core with those guys could get this team going (coupled with some solid FA signings). Another thing I REALLY want the Browns to do is trade up for another 1st rounder, I think we could have a shot at Sam Bradford (if his stock continues to freefall) or pehaps Jimmy Clausen? Our OL isn't half has bad as people think but it's really just the fact that the offense has no guys that are all too talented, to be honest. A runningback combo of our current rookie RB + a FA signing could be decent and we'd need to find a few guys willing to run routes without spraining a leg or breaking a nail. As for Brady Quinn, I just don't see him fitting in all too well with Mangina's schemes. Hopefully we trade him and get something back with his 'potential' value.
I definitely agree with building from the ground up, and for me at least, that involves both the lines. Brady Quinn hasn't really impressed me, but I still don't think he's been given a legit chance. He hasn't received good coaching while on the bench, and his team didn't show him the commitment early this season that a young QB deserves. I think they should avoid spending a first round pick on a QB until they figure out what they've got in Quinn. Also, considering their poor scouting over the years, they might want to wait until there's a cap on rookie salaries before drafting a top-tier QB prospect.
Does anyone else see this team packaging Quinn + a second rounder for another first rounder? I'm no psychic, but i'm almost certain he's on his way out. 1 more year, tops.
Ideally, the Browns wouldn't make any moves until they've fired Mangini and brought in a replacement GM/coach (this time in the proper order).
Not to mention he's just a moron. He realizes someone like Eric Barton shouldn't be starting and that we need to pick up a FA who's start-worthy. I mean, he'll fix that hole, just two years later. I'd like to say 'its a bad year', but it's always a bad year to be a diehard browns fan
We lose again! Looks like we're coming to lock that #1 draft position. We'll probably trade down to the #3-4 and try and get another 1st rounder. If we get both Bradford and Eric Berry, i'd say we had a great season.
